I think there is a happy medium. Some girls don't want a bf hanging around all the time, they want to concentrate on their studies or career for a few years. But they still want regular male company with somebody they like.

Same, many guys want a girl to hang out with, but not live with or see every night.

So it's a win win all round.

There's always pros and cons in both situations. In my experience, they have always been married and when the significant other is no longer in the picture, it's very hard to trust them. And I can understand if he doesn't trust me either... I mean, if we were to go through financial problems, what would he think I was doing while he was at work? Also, if I was not in the mood or wasn't more aggressive than he, I would wonder what he was doing "working late"...
