Better check your calendar. You are a year off from 2009.
We still have monthly meet & greets in Austin and twice a month in San Antonio.
Never any issues.
The Houston event was an aberration that caused those of us involved in organizing and those in participating some serious heartburn due to a less than a dozen people (out of nearly 200) not respecting the rules. (Rules link is in my signature). The organizers learned important lessons and revised procedures accordingly.
imo, based on my experiences in doing so since 2002, it is relatively simple to organize an event; including serious vouching and verification. However, making sure that everyone respects and follows the event rules can be very problematic and is never very simple.
And when "political" circumstances happen at City Hall or in the HPD's top ranks, vis-a-vis 2009's occurrence, there is no easy way to prevent LE actions.
So far this year, more than a dozen well-regarded providers in H-town have requested my assistance in re-starting periodic events.
