No offense, but at least half of your suggestions are really bad. Going to meet a friend? what their name, where do they live? Cutting to detriot? Where's your luggage, why are you going there? Going to see a game or play? where's your tickets, who are they playing or what play? What restaurant are you going to and where is it?
These days you better have your story straight or your going to be stumbling through questions upon secondary inspection. Strip club and casino are the best. A couple months ago, I bought something on line through craigslist from somebody between NF and Hamilton. Rather than paying shipping and waiting, I drove over to pick it up. I paid through paypal, I went earlier than the strip clubs open and I don't normally go to the casino, so I was honest an told them I was going to pick up a $500 item. I got puled over and had to provide the name and # of the gentleman, I was going to meet. Luckily I had it or else I would have been there a long time. Last year I went to Toronto to meet a friend and they wanted her name and address. In neither case did they contact the person, but I suspect they would If you story is too fishy. They are particularly suspicious of the Friends reason because they suspect it's a stripper you met and are hooking up with.
As I said, Strip club and casino are the best and make sure you declare everything you have and it's best to leave it behind if you're not going to need it. NO WEAPONS! When you cross back into the USA, DO NOT LIE ABOUT HOW LONG YOU"VE BEEN THERE! They know. Declare anything you bought. Generally coming back is less of a hassle than going over.
