Default RW situation and in need of advice

I have the most incredible and too damn smart daughter. She just graduated HS and is off to college in Yankee Land.

Does anybody have access to Trinity, IWU, SWT or even North Texas?

I know that sometimes it who you know and not much else.

I would be in your debt for sure......

Rex-man - congrats on your good fortune- a child smart enough to know college is a necessity.

Best advice - start local with one of SA's community college - gets the pertinents done first and cheap.

Also look into college offerings at local military bases. If she is accepted, she goes to classes on base (the base college will get her a semester base pass) and the rate per hour is normally discounted due to lower overhead of military providing classrooms.

Had a young McD's employee attending year before last with zero issues.

Sit down with your daughter and explain the financial burden normally incurred when attending big name U's and long term debt. If she is really smart she will see the advantage of nearby opportunities for a degree and lower/no-er debt.

Best to her.

I would also suggest starting out in a community college. Just make sure that the credits will transfer to the final destination school. This will make it easier on you financially and ease your kiddo in to college life at the same time.

I think he would prefer her to go to college here or nearby; than travel to the Northern US. I may be mistaken though

I am in a similar situation with my oldest. He wanted to go to an away school with his buddies. I explained to him the financial burdens of this and told him I thought it would be best if he 1. proved to me he was serious about school and not just wanting to go party with his buds by taking at least 2 semesters locally and 2. he needed to have some skin in the game so to speak, I told him to get a job while going to school locally and save up some money to cover some of the cost. So far the school commitment is there but he is blowing through the money at a record pace and not saving much. There is a good lesson to be learned for him here when he is ready to go away but missed his saving target by a mile. Its a win - win for me.
