Article on prostitution
There was an article in the KC Star today on prostitution in KC. Here is a link to another article more detailed and focusing on Atlanta. Just FYI

My ECCIE Reviews

I read that article, along with the Federal one that showed the statistics as a whole. I wonder what the hell took 7 years to release the data. IF if is accurate, it is certainly out of date and irrelevant now.
Me being a data analyst, would love to see the original study notes. I am not so sure these statistics are accurate.

7 years of research, so how many times did the price point go up in the 7 years? Would be the real research question, and did services also increase.
Looks like price goes up, but services stayed the same.

It's actually not much of an article. About the only thing you can draw from it is pimp income slides as more baby boomers move past prime time/demographics, most of their business moved to independent girls via the net, and more money and clients are available for off the street business in Seattle and Atlanta for a variety of reasons. I would surmise an outsized metro area/population, liberal society (even in Atlanta versus the rest of Ga), crossroads characteristics, and greater disposable income.

Bad Reporting - useless data

I have done data studies for years. In my younger says I was hired as an outside consultant to set up the statistics for cost savings for several of the Fortune 500 companies. A short study for one firm yielded a $3.5 million savings per yearly operations, for which I got a small percent yearly for 10 years. Data is very useful, and you can determine a lot very quickly. However, the key to everything in statistical studies is the method of data collection. You have to have reliable data and not the crap used for propaganda. Correct data collection is everything. Several glaring errors stood out in the news item at first reading, without the complete data. It is obviously a lot of BS in places especially when it comes to money.
The statement that a lot of the data was collected from people in jail makes the report worthless because an inmate is going to tell the data collector whatever he/she thinks the person wants. BS is not reliable.
The amount of money earned in a few hours compared to the rates posted here by providers just does not jive. They did not even try to cross check their data.
Recently a reported told of a 100% increase in deaths in one year from a certain medication that was used by a lot of people. Because of the report a lot of people quit using the drug.
The problem was the death toll went from 1 to 2 our of 80,000 people in the study. True this was a 100% increase, but it was not significant and the reporter did not understand statistics, as to most politicians. Most teachers do not understand that the standard population curve is useless in the real world because the whole purpose of some of the studies is to skew the curve to where we want it to be. e.g. if we are packing a food item with a weight of 1 pound, we can not legally sell it if it is under one pound, and we surely want it to be as close to one pound as possible because we would be giving away the excess. Thus the population curve is skewed. Duh, professor.

Like the report on pornography leading to violence. They asked every inmate entering prison if they had ever viewed a porographic movie. They then concluded that almost all of the inmates convicted of violent crime had in fact been influenced by porn and that porn was a driving force in violence towards women.

How many people in the general populate have ever viewed a pornographic movie? How does that compare to the prison population.
Correlation of data does not mean that there is cause and effect.

Drug addiction is not a recent problem. We lost the drug war in the late 1800's when a lot of people became dependent on patent medicines, such as Laudanum (an alcoholic tincture of opium). We use MJ in research courses on microbiology and I had a few elective courses in pharmacy (did not graduate in that field) during graduate school which were very enlightening. From the problems we now have licensed pharmacists to control drugs that are prescribed by medical doctors, for a checks and balanced system. The vast problems with drug use requires system controls. It is very scary what is available on the street, especially from illegal manufacturing. The yields of organic chemistry production can be extremely variable if the conditions are not closely monitored. Variation in the strength of the product can greatly vary. e.g. I made some very good money just by controlling the conversion of one substance to another by keeping the temperature between 180 and 190 degrees F.; any variation in the temperature range would give us something totally different. Duh, just watch the temperature closely and never leave the vat until the reaction is complete. Everyone wondered how I could make this stuff so cheap, well I undersold the big companies just by following their out of date patents.
Quality control of the product is essential for human or veterinary use. The strict Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), QC testing, statistical accumulation, use of QC data and the cross checking of production standards by agencies such as the FDA is lacking in off market materials; which makes anyone who would put such items into their body less than intelligent. A few years ago I had the President of a manufacturer called me with news he's was sending a bonus because he was extremely happy that the FDA had approved, on the first inspection, the SOP I had written for a specific manufacturing process. He had been worried because this type of thing is closely monitored.
What is the point of this. To call your attention to the fact, that no matter how much people desire them, drugs will always be strictly controlled. We will never go bact to the Victorian Era of unregulated drug use. The world has moved beyond that.
In addition, any public proposal (on here - or anywhere else) is likely to bring down the wrath of the authorities.
