Don't think it would do much in regards to rapists and pedophiles. Rape is more about asserting power over another. What outlet could you possibly give to a pedophile.

You have a good point. I'd hope that the less repressive atmosphere might foster less of a need for the outlet. And while I didn't directly say so, it seems to me that the ability to get laid for a couple hundred bucks might stop or delay a mass shooter too. Sometimes, not all the time, just sometimes, the issue is loneliness. But there is certainly more to it, and I don't think a more repressive, background check-to get on a hooker board-society would help.

I think you've had too much neo-feminist cool-aid

Kirby R. Cundiff, PhD, Associate Professor of Finance at Northeastern State University, wrote the Apr. 8, 2004 working paper entitled "Prostitution and Sex Crimes," for the Independent Institute, that stated:
"It is estimated that if prostitution were legalized in the United States, the rape rate would decrease by roughly 25% for a decrease of approximately 25,000 rapes per year....
*
...[T]he analysis seems to support the hypothesis that the rape rate could be lowered if prostitution was more readily available. This would be accomplished in most countries by its legalization."

Apr. 8, 2004 - Kirby R. Cundiff, PhD*

I think part of it is about power and control but you cannot dismiss the sexual component.

As for the original premise here, I have not heard a more moronic idea in quite a while. 1st you presume that everyone on the list deserves to be there. 2nd, the 'family values' crowd who own thoses lists would put 100% of us on this board on their list if they could. SOL's are one of the largest abuses of power and travesties to our liberties ever allowed.

It's an asinine suggestion. The 25% assertion is asinine as well. Someone is either overthinking or underthinking the problem.

A professor of finance is an authority on rape reduction? Sounds like academia crap to me. How can anyone say legalizing prostitution will result in a 25% reduction in rapes. Even with the current laws in place finding an escort is fairly easy. Certainly easy enough to deter someone from committing a worse crime of rape.

There's actually a lot of studies out there that come to the same conclusion, just pulled up the 1st one so it didn't seem I was making it up.
Saying rape isn't about sex is just dumb to me. It's sick depraved worthy of being locked up sex but sex none the less.
It doesn't make sense to you that providing convenient access to sex might satisfy enough to prevent some rape? Just seems somewhat logical.

Isn't there already reasonably convenient access to sex already, as this board proves? It doesn't make sense to me that a rapist wouldn't visit a prostitute because it is illegal but would rape someone with much higher legal penalties. Unless...by legalizing it, you made it much cheaper and therefore more financially accessible to more people.

Finding is easy but financing is not. Certainly not to all, I understand your position from other threads. But I think the most likely deterrent to the crime would be eliminating the attitude, "I shouldn't have to pay for it." Creating that mindset would take decades if it's even possible. But blocking someone from a website for prior bad acts will quickly make the angry angrier.

It's already very accessible. Doesn't take much effort finding an escort.

Legalized prostitution won't be free. Don't know if that particular change in mindset would have an effect.

By definition free sex is not prostitution.
