Unhappy Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead at 46

Hoffman was found in the bathroom of his Manhattan apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan this morning, according to the New York Police Department, which is investigating.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, but a law enforcement official tells ABC News heroin was found at the scene and a needle was sticking out of Hoffman's arm.

I don't understand why people are stunned or surprised.

Default Sad

What he did in "Capote" was nails..

Great talent but like the addict he played in "Before the Devil knows you're dead."..there always seemed to be a sad Karma attached to him. Except for Twister, I thought he made great choices and I will forever link him to a couple of favorite exchanges..

Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.
Bunny Lebowski: Brandt can't watch, though, or he has to pay a hundred.
Brandt: Ah haha. That's marvelous.
The Dude: Uh, I'm just gonna go find a cash machine.

The Dude: These are, uh...
Brandt: Oh, those are Mr Lebowski's children, so to speak.
The Dude: Different mothers, huh?
Brandt: No.
The Dude: Racially he's pretty cool?
Brandt: [laughs] They're not literally his children. They're the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers - inner city children of promise but without the necessary means for a - necessary means for a higher education. So Mr Lebowski is committed to sending all of them to college.

RIP

I didn't consider Twister for much more than it was--a character role that got him into mainstream movies which he was able to build upon. In that sense it was a good choice, and he played it well.

Leap of Faith with Steve Martin and Debra Winger was his first major role, followed by Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell.

The first thing I remember him was "The Scent of a Woman" with Pacino and O'Connell. He was the nerdy, rich student who gave crappy testimony at the disciplinary hearing at the end.
