Texas justice - What do you think?

Never being one to condone violence, I have to say this guy went too far. I guess the Texas Justice system sees things differently.http://www.nypost.com/p/news/nationa...bgJKNwLzKIkxBP |

Tx is like its own country. I hated it and loved it. Houston was an unusual place to say the least.

There has to be more to it, I certainly hope. Is prostitution legal there? I can't believe that article, maybe the DA went after the wrong charge or some evidence was bad?

That's a little harsh JB but it does underscore that both parties need or should abide by some level of unwritten ethical standards or there's bound to be trouble. Most of us have experienced a cash and dash of some sort and it makes ya feel pretty shitty. Likewise, I bet most providers have had jerks run off without paying.
If this chick had kept 50 bucks and returned the rest she probably wouldn't have got shot. That still doesn't justify what this douche bag did.

First, as prostitution isn't legal, I would have thought this was an incidence of using a firearm in the commission of a crime, invoking stiffer penalties, and not a defense.
Second, in Jack's article, I cannot argue against a life being worth more than $150. However, undeterred theft cannot be allowed, and had he merely pushed someone trying to steal $5 from him, and they fell, cracked their head and eventually died, I can't see him being a murderer. So there is gray.

Finally, this seems to be an inept jury. We've mentioned inept juries elsewhere recently, Corisanti. In that case it is up to the judge to overrule bad decisions and prosecutors to appeal.

There's also inept judges who like to give light sentences.

Absolutely, and other bad decisions. I hear many court people say judges are merely failed lawyers. I want to believe otherwise but there's probably lots of truth.

Its merely a case of an overzealous prosecutor and a well paid defense lawyer. Hey in CA murderers walk free, OJ until he went to prison on assault charges and Robert Blake.
