Default Fiscal cliff and the hobby

Who believes the fiscal cliff has effected the hobby? It has been extremely slow over the last month. While living in a city like Houston, there are tons of AMP's , Agency's ,Indys. Visiting ladies continue to bring sand to the beach. Do any independent ladies have ideas of how to survive during this recession? I believe it is the independent gal that will be affected most. As an independent we cover all our cost without a 2% discount. I would love to hear from other ladies thinking the same.

The fiscal cliff was about taxes, since your business is a cash business I am surprised it will have any effect on you.

I have just been reading around and noticed several post like this one:

Not surprised providers don't understand why it's slow. They don't all pay taxes on their income and don't realize everyone took a 2% hit on disposable income at the beginning of the year. To counter the slow down, providers are raising prices which may not be the best business move. I recently asked a provider to give me a 2% break on her outcall rate of 450 and saved $9.00. That was actually quite nice of her.

But just to give a perspective, my tax hit was $3,000 for the year which means 10-15 less appointments for the year for me. I would think this is the case for many hobbyist and means it is probably slow everywhere.

For NC/NS, that is just disrespectful and it goes both ways

When there is a lot of uncertainty most who have a certain level of discretionary money to spend are more conservative until there is some "direction" that clarifies the uncertainty, and that general attitude is more than likely one reason those folks have "a certain level of discretionary money to spend."

Unlike the government.

January is always slow, excesses of Christmas and new year, bowl games, nfl playoffs, and adding in the Obama cut in take home pay .... Mongers will get busy when they realize hobbying is their only shot at valentines day date.

It has nothing to do with the fiscal cliff in my view. the reasons are:

- Its cold outside
- My recent encounter at Sunflowers was so bad i still think the next one is going to be the same, so i stop at any hint in a review that that might happen. I have been stopping for a while now.
- Most of the ladies i admire have raised their rates over the last year or two, and yet nothing has changed, so if in case i do feel the urge, i find it easier to reread my last review and remind myself of the #2 reason i quit the asians.
- I am busy at work - beginning of year is normally a time to approve so much of what is going to happen so am doing too many reports to count. A 1 hour hobby schedule is a 3 hour session for me, 1 hour of travel and preparation (shower, brush, drive), and 1 hour of reliving the experience, and between work and real life, no time at the moment.

Now i could keep going, but then, for the right price vs value, i may just consider coming back again and picking one of the ladies to help them with their slow days. I am a creature of habit so i tend to go back to the same place i got to eat previously, given that my feeding grounds have dried off or become too costly, i may just be on the hunt for new ones.

+ 100. Sometimes 4 hours, plus the phone tag to arrange and verify.

By comparison at an hourly rate of $250 that equals $1,000.

As a business owner I have noticed things really slowin down. I have had to layoff several people(never easy to do) so if they hobbied they probably don't right now. My tax rates just went up. My weekly rate by $160.00.
I talk to a lot of business owners and all have same story. No body knows what the tax rates are going to be and if they are going to be retroactive.
Nobody can tell us what obamacare is going to do to our payroll liabilities.
Most people make their financial plans on what they know for sure. And since everything is up in the air right now nobody can plan.
So I think things are going to be slow for the girls for a little while. I myself have been looking for bargains- specials, review specials and such. I have found several good providers in the $200.00 range. Been staying away from the 250-300 and higher range (except special occasions).

Prices are just going to have to come down if girls want customers. Some won't care as they want a little less work anyway, but those who are not getting the number of clients they need are going to have to offer more specials.

We are going into another downturn sometime this year, that is my prediction. Too much debt, not just our government, but every other damn government full of lying pandering politicians. More debt + higher taxes + increased regulations = slow economy.

But it is what the people want. They chose it.

I was just chatting with one of my regular providers and jokingly said I need a 2% discount because of tax increases. See laughed and agreed, this wasn't meant to be taken too seriously. I actually tipped $9 because neither one of us had change.

Hobbyist: "blah, blah, blah... Economy... blah, blah, blah... Recession... blah, blah, blah... You bitches need to charge less."

Provider: "blah, blah, blah... Economy... blah, blah, blah... Recession... blah, blah, blah... You assholes need to pay more."
