now one thing I be hearing now is that many times if a member of family calls about a mental heath issue of another member of the family. Cops can do nothing unless something happened.
That has been part of the case in the past many of the times. That seems to be still being looked at in this case. In a live interview from there. When asked, all the officer would say is that is being looked into.
edit:anyone want to talk about what the kids where trained to do and did in this case. huddle together out of view of the door.

mmmm ok. how about Utah. Only state in the union where teachers can and some do carry handguns to school. But had some police training before being able to do that.

Thinck about it ... the gov't can install gun controls but it does nothing if people are crazy. Plus, many people are self medicated which is just as dangerous as someone with a gun. Gun control is merely a quick fix, sort of like treating the itch rather than the cause.

NYS did close many homes for the mental ill in favor of putting them where they had more freedom. After that, it did get harder to get help unless something happened. Unless ya could get that person to check self in.

They are currently passing/passed a law that requires all children with disabilities to be registered at birth. Interested to see where that will go.

Of course, we all recognize the lethal consequences of mentally-disturbed people having easy access to weapons of mass destruction. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to be willing to confront the "easy access to weapons of mass destruction" part. It is more important to make sure that our citizens can be armed to the teeth to protect themselves from the tyrannical government.
Judging from the finger-pointing here and elsewhere, it is ironic that the same evil government that is not to be trusted to do anything about our troubled health-care system (including mental health) may now be called up on to solve the mental-health aspect of violent crimes!

I did not realize mentally disturbed people had easy access to chemical biological and nuclear weapons.

Whatever suits your agenda. I would love to see some factual proof backing up that statement.

Here is a little copy and paste from wiki which seems pretty unbiased, unlike most participants in this thread.
Whether or not the term assault weapon should be used at all, and if so how they should be defined, and whether firearms defined as assault weapons should be legally restricted more than other firearms are questions subject to considerable debate as part of the arguments of gun politics in the United States.
Prominent gun-control groups which support restrictions on ownership of these firearms include the Brady Campaign and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. Prominent opponents of assault-weapons bans include the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America. Gun-rights groups consider the phrase assault weapon to be a pejorative when used to describe civilian firearms. [6][7][8]

Apparently the 2nd amendment is sacrosanct, not only concerning guns, but any and all types of guns.
The 5th amendment, not so much.
