You’ve made a very definite statement – where’s the evidence that the takers now outnumber the givers? I know plenty of people across the full political spectrum who go to work every day, work far more than 40 hours a week, and give back to their communities every day. Show me the data, GP.

Talk about entitlements - we already have models for what happens when business is allowed to operate without regulation. Witness the runup to the 2008 crash, when businesses were allowed to securitize toxic mortgages and create credit defaults swaps. Go back a little further in history and contemplate the S & L mess that hurt the little guy far more than businessmen. Should business be entitled to operate without any concern for the environment, or without regard for safe working condtions? I’ve had to deal with EPA and OSHA excesses, and I’ve seen “Tiger Teams” shut down the research efforts of our national laboratories for months on end, so I know there have been regulatory excesses, but without some regulation of business, we could become another India or China, thoroughly fouling not only their environment but that of the entire globe. Those economies now stand a good chance of collapsing under the weight of their takers. Do you want that for this country, GP?

You can whine because your guy fell short. You can blame the opposition for bankrupting the country. But ill-conceived tax cuts and two senseless wars, along with the debt service on the deficits thereby incurred, have added more to the national debt than Obama’s stimulus ever did.

You can do better, GP. And for the good of the country, we’d all better buck up and give it our best.

Buck up and give it our best? You could say that 50 years ago but not today. We're not the country we used to be. We're far too self centered for that. Too many people are too concerned with what they can get, or what they feel they are entitled too. Our grand parents went through much worse than anything we're facing. We're nothing like the great generation. Hope I'm wrong on this.

Don't worry, the U.S. cannot be bankrupt unless the people and their elected representatives do not have the political will to pay our bills.

Remember, we are a sovereign with a fiat monetary system. It is a little like having a money tree in your back yard (and a trust fund - that would equal taxing authority). Would you be able to go broke with a money tree in your backyard (yes, there are other bad things that can happen, but there are good reasons they probably won't either)? I didn't think so. It is a simple mathematical and accounting fact that the U.S. cannot go bankrupt unless we choose to do so.

Really? You never went to a public school? How about a public university? Ever receive a Pell Grant? An FHA Mortgage? Or how about a SONYMA mortgage? You've never received unemployment? A student loan? Small business loans? Ever worked for someone who started their business with the help of a government loan? Participate in the NYS STAR program? Receive a rebate check from it?

I could go on, but i'm guessing the point's been made.
