I have come to the conclusion that you just never know what an individual is going through and sometimes they themselves are also having a bad day and that the "No" possibly had nothing to do with you.
I agree wholeheartedly that a hobbyist should mention any issues before leaving. Though awkward, it is understandable to mention it was not the greatest and 9 times out of 10, the provider will gladly give at least a partial refund or schedule a make up session. I know I would.
And likewise, you never know if a provider is just having a bad day. We are humans and sometimes we stab our eyes with eyeliner pencils right before an appointment!
I have done that! It hurts!
I myself just had an appointment and about 20 minutes before he was due to arrive, I got some upsetting news about an ill family member.
To say I was "no longer in the mood" would be an understatement.
But he had driven all the way from FT.Worth and took a half day off of work.
Is it better to cancel someone 20 min before an appointment or soldier on?
I chose to go forward and all ended well and he was happy but I know that I was not really on my "A" game..
It's important to remember that we providers also have bad days, get bad news, wake up tired, work thorough headaches and stomach aches and if you sense something is off..just tell us! We'lll make it right!
