Default Infographic:The 25 U.S. cities with the highest rates of HIV infection

Listed below are the U.S. cities and major metropolitan areas with the highest rates of new infections per capita as of 2013. Not sure there's been much change in a year. Given the perception of basically being a gay State I'm surprised cities in California such as San Fran and LA are lower on the list.

Noticed Texas cities didn't make the top 10; sure not comforting for those personally affected.

1. Miami
2. New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner, La.
3. Baton Rouge, La.
4. Jackson, Miss.
5. Washington, D.C. (includes Va., Md., and W.Va. suburbs)
6. Baltimore–Towson, Md.
7. Memphis, Tenn. (includes Miss. and Ark. suburbs)
8. Atlanta–Sandy Springs–Marietta, Ga.
9. New York City (includes N.Y., N.J., and Pa. suburbs)
10. Jacksonville, Fla.
11. Orlando, Fla.
12. Houston-Baytown-Sugar Land, Texas
13. San Juan–Caguas–Guaynabo, Puerto Rico
14. Charlotte–Gastonia–Concord, N.C.–S.C.
15. Columbia, S.C.
16. Dallas
17. Birmingham–Hoover, Ala.
18. Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater, Fla.
19. Los Angeles
20. Greensboro–High Point, N.C.
21. San Francisco
22. Charleston–North Charleston, S.C.
23. Virginia Beach–Norfolk–Newport News, Va.–N.C.
24. Philadelphia (includes Pa., N.J., Del., and Md. suburbs)
25. Richmond, Va.

It would be helpful if there was some real data here.

Like the number of new cases in each city.

If it's 20 in Houston, I'm not so worried.

If it's 20,000 in Houston, different story.

It would also be good to know what percentage came from sharing medical accessories.....if you know what I mean.

I found that in the Houston area, the rate of infection is 398 per 100,000 people or roughly 0.4% of the population. This area include Harris-Fort Bend-Chambers-Liberty-Montgomery and Waller Counties. 99.6% of the population does not have HIV.

Found this online map; a good reminder and information tool you can play around with and run queries based on age, race, and gender demographics. The results will be HIV cases within your local zip code, state wide, and even nationally.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from wearing a condom during sex but...

There's an HIV thread in the D&T section of this board where I link to the CDC websites HIV statistics (not an HIV activist board). It was estimated (not confirmed) that 1000 white women (they break it down by sex, race and sexual orientation) last year were infected by HIV. The stats lead me to believe that non anal sex with hetereo non IV drug using partner has an extremely low chance of HIV transmission.

Edit:

Here's the Thread:

Here's the CDC report:

Here's the telling graphic:

Default Oral sex and STD's

Checking a number of websites this is the info I found

http://www.ashasexualhealth.org/stdsstis/oral-sex-stis/ Can someone be infected with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) from oral sex? Yes. Many STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, can be spread through oral sex. However, the chances of giving or getting STIs during oral sex can be lowered by using a condom or dental dam.

That article was posted on8/15/15

Re HIV

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/riskbehaviors/oralsex.html
Even though oral sex carries a lower risk of HIV transmission than other sexual activities, the risk is not zero. It is difficult to measure the exact risk because people who practice oral sex may also practice other forms of sex during the same encounter. When transmission occurs, it may be the result of oral sex or other, riskier sexual activities, such as anal or vaginal sex.
If the person receiving oral sex has HIV, their blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid, or vaginal fluid may contain the virus. If the person performing oral sex has HIV, blood from their mouth may enter the body of the person receiving oral sex through the lining of the urethra (the opening at the tip of the penis), vagina, cervix, or anus, or through cuts and sores.
Several factors may increase the risk of HIV transmission through oral sex, including oral ulcers, bleeding gums, genital sores, and the presence of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

http://sfaf.org/hiv-info/basics/can-...from-oral.html

Once semen gets past the mouth, stomach acid and enzymes in the esophagus kill the virus. So swallowing or spitting out semen (cum or precum) reduces your risk for HIV, compared with letting it sit in your mouth.
A popular jingle is: Spit or Swallow, Don’t Let it Wallow.

To reduce your risk even more, make sure you keep the mucous membranes in your mouth healthy – don’t perform oral for about 45 minutes after you brush your teeth, floss, or engage in any other aggravating oral behavior, and not at all when you have open sores.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen should we brush our teeth and have the minty fresh breath the ladies want ? And if there is still a risk of HIV and other STD's from oral sex than why do the girls do bbj yet cfs. Unless they are using the condom as an additional layer against pregnancy the damage may already be done. And a few of our providers are also post menopausal who will also do bbj and insist on cfs, The damage is most likely done.

Consider this as well: Houston has a higher rate than other similar size cities. Maybe we should check how many ECCIE providers in those cities do anything uncovered. I'll be number is substantially lower
