Default Prepaid Phones US & Canada?

I’m looking for a prepaid phone to replace the one I currently have, which is Verizon with a basic flip phone. As far as I can tell, it will not work in Canada.

So I have a short trip planned to canada and want to make sure my phone will work. Last time I went, my Canadian prepaid telus phone wouldn’t work due to an issue with the SIM card. This was a problem I couldn’t resolve within my timeframe.

Anyone know of a prepaid service that I can activate here and will work when I travel to Canada?

Thanks.

If you like Verizon just go a Verizon store tell them you want to to prepaid I been prepaid 10 years I lover it it harder for them to fuck you. However I got ATT as main phone do area I live it best bang for buck. Avoid a dollar store prepaid or big box you don't get as good service.
