I built an avatar using Photoshop 6 to be exact and Animator using the steps I suggested here and using avatars suggested in the OLD TIMERS thread.

But what is GIMP, saw what the letters were, is it software specific or a general concept?

GIMP is...

Gnu Image Manipulating Program

It is an image manipulation tool much like Photoshop. Unlike Photoshop, it is free.
It originated from the Linux world and eventually it was ported for Windows.

You can find out more at www.gimp.org

I used it to create the banner that appears below.
