Default It doesn't pay to post here anymore - at least not for me

As some here already know, I work in the medical industry. Actually, I work for a doctor. He pays me all day to basically just sit around and type on the computer. So, up until now most of my posting has been "on the clock" so to speak. But, he just gave me the "heads up" that he will no longer need my services as of this coming Monday April 12th. So, I will be looking for a new "day job" and won't be around here nearly as much as I have. Just wanted to let everyone know, that although I'm not as active a poster, I will still check in from time to time.

It's been fun, thank you all for being so fun to chat with.

That sucks. . .

Happy hunting on the day job, and hopefully you will still be the consummate pro at your evening job. Speaking of which, when you get a moment update your sig line so we know where you might be touring next. If you get close to here, I will do my part to cheer you up in person.

Hopefully this will be an opportunity in disguise and you find an even better situation than you had.

I don't call 1 day (unless you work weekends) a "heads up." I call it a cruel termination. Two weeks is standard.

Hope the hunt goes well, and you find a similar job soon. And just to "shove" it to boss you just left, I hope this opportunity will find you a better job, with better benefits, at a higher wage where you can make better friends.

You seem to think that Company is at fault....

Not defending the boss or the employer in any means Charles, but since we are only hearing one side of the story which happens to be from the employee, and with her admitting herself that she post on the site while "On the Clock" is enough alone for a employer to take action, most professional companies have Computer Usage Policies in place, I willing to assume that posting to an Adult XXXXX board is not classified under proper usage working for a doctors office, as long as you are on the clock it's your duty as an employee to be devoted to your paid task or job, and since we don't have information on past history that might have lead to the quick decision, its hard to be pointing the finger at anyone person, either the employer or employee.

Most employers don't get enjoyment letting employees loose from the job, good help is not only hard to get but also expensive to train and fit in to the environment of the job. Just because he or she, the employer, has dismissed an employee with little or short notice does not mean there was not a defined reason why. It also depends if she was salary, temporary or part time employee on the notice of termination that is expected, noticed I did not say required, to the employee. Texas mandates according to the TWC and Texas is sort of unquie in many ways if the proper documents are filed and noted in company - employee policies manual that enacted within the company. Note of course Lawyers can pick this to death, but the TWC rulings are usually followed and if the company complies, its pretty simple.

Again not blaming Miss N or the former boss, but with only one side of the story is very hard to determine the reason of the action taken, or who is right or wrong.

No disrespect to Nicolette in any matter, I am sure she will find what she seeks, good luck.

No, only that my impression was the notice was unusually short.

I agree with this paragraph. However, I was operating under 2 assumptions (and we all know what this means): (1) that if she were being terminated for "posting to an Adult XXXXX board" as you state, they would terminate her for cause so they wouldn't have to pay unemployment, and (2) she intimated that her responsibilities didn't require a lot of work which is why she had ample time to post here.

For the most part, I agree with this paragraph.

This observation is correct. It's just that I work in a job where we almost never try to give an employee one day's notice. It only invites anger and lawsuits. If the employee is a danger to the business, we still pay them 2 weeks severance, even though the employee's last day may be the next day.

No disrespect to Nicolette in any matter, I am sure she will find what she seeks, good luck.

A very good practice that pays off many times over for employers and really the employee, maybe the employer in this case did that, maybe he didn't, I did not see that in the OP post.

CT thanks for you replies

Just to be clear, my boss introduced me to the boards (first aspd and then here) and encouraged me to post all day. He told me that the reason he hired me for is going to all be over as of Monday so he won't be needing me anymore.

It's complicated, but I didn't get fired or caught doing anything wrong. He just needed me to do a project for him that involved computer work and the project is done. He pays me cash off the books, so this isn't a job that I can get unemployment from.

I wouldn't be posting all day on an adult site if it was not acceptable at my "day job." I'm not stupid and I do what I'm paid to do. If you doubt it, hire me and see if I meet and/or exceed all expectations. (My rates can be found on my website).

Nicolette, just to be up-front here... in no way that I said or implied that you were stupid or the reason that you were no longer needed at the present job task was because of posting to the site, if you will please re-read my statement that I was only using the computer posting comment as a reference, I also mentioned that since none of us have any knowledge of the arrangement that you and your employer had, we or at least myself could not point the finger either at you or the employer, and as Charles state "assumption" has it true meaning of making an "ass" of "u" and "me".

Especially read the bottom two lines of my original post....

If you took any words in the content of my post as if I was calling you "Stupid", I hereby apologize to you directly here on the board.

Woody,
no apology needed, I didn't take offense from your post. I was worried my response would come off like I was pissed. I reread my post twice and saw it could be interpreted either way. (Hence my big grin at the end). I just wanted to clear up any misconceptions about why I will no longer have my "day job" and why I may or may not be posting as much.

If your presence does fade somewhat, you will be missed.

NB - thanks for clarifying. Obviously yours is a unique situation.

It appears some readers were adding 1+1 and getting 3. That is you were posting on a questionable site and got canned.

I have to say in every organization I've ever been affiliated with once someone is terminated for some kind of conduct issue they are told to collect their things (often supervised) or told their personal items will be sent to them and then escorted from the premises. There is no notice.

One group I worked with even had a substantial petty cash fund so that they could literally "settle up" with the individual on their way out the door due to some old state law about needing to be current with all former employees.
