Default FOSTA has passed in the House

Yesterday the House of Representatives passed the controversial “Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act” (FOSTA.) This is a bill that gives far reaching powers to federal authorities in the effort to combat human trafficking.

This bill, potentially, makes the posting of, replying to, and payin for commercial sex services a federal crime.

That’s a big deal. It also targets websites where providers and hobbyists post and respond to ads for sessions and services. How this is different from pornographic actors and actresses being hired for “gigs” is an different conversation .

Now, I will say this is only the House bill, the Senate will get a chance to debate and vote on this as well. But it is alarming to privacy advocates and folks who have read Article 1, Sec 9 of the Constitution that prohibits prosecuting crimes for actions that occurred prior to the passage of this bill. It will likely, if passed, have significant impact on numerous aspects of the hobbying industry.

Read more about it here:

http://www.reason.com/blog/2018/02/28/fosta/amp

If this gets through the Senate as is it will go to President Trump (who appears to have used providers himself) for signature. I’m not sure it makes it out of the Senate. There are serious concerns about the Constitutionality.

However, just in case it does, sites like ECCIE could be directly targeted. So just wanted to pass this along for your awareness and discussion. Illegal human trafficking of underage and unwilling people is wrong. However, this bill (as it stands) reaches beyond sensible solutions to address and makes concensual acts between free adults a federal crime. That’s a terrible thing.

What day you all?

I've seen this coming for many , many years.

They have used the human trafficking issue to try and shut down consenting commercial sex.

If you dig deep into the well, you'll find this has nothing to do with human trafficking.

Trump will sign this in a heart beat.

The Senate will pass it without much change....

It will then be up to the Courts.

The nonprofits are the one's profiting from this nonsense.

They make you out to be for human trafficking if you oppose this....so very few want to get labeled with that. It is like the MeToo movement.

On Tuesday, it passed the House with 388 votes in its favor.
Ivanka Trump and a host of liberal Hollywood celebs, government-funded nonprofits, and former #Pizzagate conspiracy theorists cheered.

I agree. This bill is just yet another knee-jerk "lets pass something for the sake of passing something" bull shit reaction from congress..

We can all agree but nobody is going to call their Senator to vote against it.

I said a couple of years ago , web-sites like these, days are numbered.

What's the point in calling your Senator? Do you really think they'll listen to anyone's concerns over this matter?

No and also nobody is going to call and say that support commercial consensual sex.....that is why this is going to pass. It will be up to the Courts to call it unconstitutional.

NO! it is very real here. A lot of ladies will have no way to market their goods when this legislation passes. All of the guy will have problems finding ladies to provide for our needs when the ladies go back to street walking.

Damn where will I be able to research the proper ladies for my needs. This has been so easy. Will it all end.?

First they come...

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Bumping this because the FOSTA legislation just cleared the Senate.

This is a big deal folks. I hope the best for the ladies on here but it will change how we operate.

Thankfully, my business is keeping me in Euope regularly now. Plenty of unobstructed hobbying over there.

Once POTUS signs it the legislation will becomes law in 2019 (I think, maybe 90 days) so that has big implications for ECCIE and all of us. Any alternatives out there?

Escort services are still legal if they're ostensibly for companionship and not for sex. These websites can still operate if this is signed. They just won't allow anyone to be explicit about adult activities which will make it a little more difficult to do research but people will still find a way to communiCate if someone is gfe/cbj/etc.

As usual you are spot on Dan.

Most people have no clue as to how their world is going to change.

This is why the NRA does not want to give an inch because they know the other side wants the whole mile.

Same with Pro Choice....they give the Pro Life group anything and the next thing you know we'll be back to coathangers

I predict more single mothers. The providers that can no longer find clients will turn to the only avenue of support left: the State by having a baby.
