I can cite dozens of articles that disagree with your statement. And you can cite articles that agree with your statement. The issue is dead. Mask mandates were made with assumption that wearing masks would help stop the spread of Covid. The mandates were almost worldwide so if a mistake was made many made that mistake. When the mask mandates were in effect the incidence of flu fell significantly and those who analyzed the data concluded it was due to mask wearing. IF mask-wearing worked on the flu, it is entirely possible it worked on Covid.

You probably can, but none of them are valid. There has never been a time in modern history where Health Officials encouraged or mandated the wearing of Masks in public places. I never really wore a mask and never was vaccinated and never caught Covid. By your own admission in previous posts you indicated you wore a mask was vaccinated and still caught Covid twice. Do you still want to talk about whats affective and what isn't?

That's just not true Levianon. I was in Hong Kong around 2003 or 2004 and masks were definitely encouraged if not mandated. Most people wore them. And they were encouraged and mandated in many countries in recent years. Masks were encouraged in 1918 in response to the flu epidemic:

https://www.michiganmedicine.org/hea...-were-slackers

To the extent that people don't wear masks when they're at home or eating in restaurants, and to the extent that people wear rinky dink cloth masks instead of well-fitting N95 and KN95 masks, they may not prevent spread of some respiratory viruses. But the science is pretty well established. See this thread:

https://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=2707468

Good quality masks, worn properly, work.

And I wouldn't have caught COVID from a stripper in Houston if I'd been wearing an N95 mask.

How many COVID tests have you taken? You're probably not a paranoid hypochondriac like me who pops open a test kit at the first sign of a sniffle, so I question whether you may have had COVID and not known it. I'd be surprised if you have not, given I don't believe you've taken precautions like masking and social distancing nor gotten vaccinated.

I recall one poster on an international sex board bragged about how he banged around 2500 southeast Asian hookers without condoms and never caught an STD. He probably was a gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes and HPV super spreader and never knew it. I'm not accusing you of anything like that. If memory serves me correctly you advised people to stay home when they're sick. But you may have had COVID and never knew it.

Both China and Hong Kong have excessive levels of Air Pollution that's why many wear masks it's not because of air borne pathogenic viruses.

Default Fear and Time Travel - Part 1

I think I see what's going on in the whole mis/dis/mal-information continuum, especially in light of massive government induced censorship, often with collaboration/collusion with third parties. Mainly the inability of most to time travel, but also fear of the knowns and unknowns that you might find along the journey. Trust me, it's easy and safe. So how does one get from the top half of the below graphic to the bottom half anyway?

A couple of simple tricks of the trade.

#1) Learn how to use your search engine. Hey the Gogglie: before: 2000 air quality of operating rooms, while not foolproof, may limit search results. But words and updates of articles can skew the search results. BTW: after 2000: air quality of operating rooms should return slightly different results. Core points being - what did they know and when did they know it, limited by date. YMMV Truth be told; 2000 air quality of operating rooms seems to work reasonably well.

There is also the bang (!) parameter in some search engines. Like if you are fairly certain you saw an article on say ConspiracyTherorist.com, but you also know your search engine tends to down grade that site to page 54 of the results, you would enter Hey the Googlie: air quality of operating rooms !ConspiracyTherorist.com

#2) A proper reference library is essential. I highly recommend these time worn classics.

#3) Always dig around starting at the top and working your way down, i.e. mining 101. In other words, use some common sense and intuition, aka your gut, so the whole thing doesn't cave in on your head. That is to say, don't start or limit your looking where they tell you to look.

#4) Probably the most important and maybe should have been #1 - don't let fear of the knowns and unknowns deter you. But do keep in mind the Fear-Factor of things. People are easily and extremely motivated by fear. Sure, it could get messy. Think - fight or flight. For example:

My gut says there is no way in holy hell that surgical operating rooms rely on paper surgical masks for air quality and management of pathogens. As such my search would want to explore, based on time. EX: before: 2009 air quality of operating rooms should turn up things like:
Notice the last couple are well after 2009. But they support the previous ones. I dunno, maybe 2009 is contained in them or they are updates. Don't matter. I just included them anyway.

This came from a similar search before:2015 reason for surgical masks
Is Routine Use of a Face Mask Necessary in the Operating Room?

Sure as shooting, it was never paper masks. Ever!
So all the carping about we didn't know, mistakes were made, now we know - is codswallop. Always was, always will be.

Yes it is. Many more people wear masks routinely today than before the Covid pandemic. I would enjoy to continue to talk about what is effective and what is not in preventing Covid. You are an anti-vaxxer who probably denies the vaccine was almost totally effective in halting the spread of Covid.

I have caught Covid twice but not while wearing masks or social distancing. Probably caught it both times in the gym where conditions are prime for spreading infections. Also caught RSV likely in the gym.

Both my cases of Covid were very minor. I didn't even know I had Covid until I was tested. Had I not been vaccinated, it is speculation as to whether or not the symptoms would have been much worse.

2003/2004 was during SARS. Before and after most people weren't wearing masks.

So it’s you vs the world scientific community, WYID?

Not surprising that you would argue using extremes like Anesthesia papers from 14 years ago. The essence of misinformation.

Thanks for the lesson.

You learned nothing - IMHO. I suspect it's an ongoing capability issue for you. But all articles presented, with actual and functional links (who knew?), were scientific papers. I'll let you in on a little secret: Heir Fauci did not invent science. But he may have invented beer.

Indeed! Also, it is hard to cover your face if you cough or sneeze when you are stuffed onto a bus or train, shoulder to shoulder, with a million of your closest fellow travelers.

To that end; many don't know or can't recall that one of the earliest signs of trouble came in the late September - early October time frame from our satellite surveillance systems. For the first time in years, we could actually see the ground in Beijing because the pollution had dissipated and the streets were mostly bare of people and traffic and some super astute analyst said something like: What's up wid dat?

Chinese Gov't pushed it to the extent a person could be arrested, so yeah I guess they wore masks more so than usual

Maybe not as many people wore masks before the Pandemic in China but it was still common in large cities where air quality was poor.

I see a small crack in your thinking opening up. If I keep working on you, you may just strap on a KN95 when you're on a bus or plane, if there's nobody around who you know.

I addressed Hong Kong. I wasn't in China during that time. While I don't know China well, the use of masks in other Asian cities because of poor air quality isn't as common as you probably think.

And, gentlemen, there certainly are many Asians who wear masks because they believe they reduce the probability of being infected by respiratory viruses. I know some.
