bases named after confederate generals:

bear in mind those bases were named for political reasons. most of those bases were created in the early 1900s. when the military needs money, they had to be nice to racist southern democrats, they buttered them up with platitudes and naming rights in exchange for military funding. last base named after one was in the 1950's. this is the 1850 - 1860 demographic that was dying out. so they would have been 90 - 100 years old. they still had enough influence on the younger demographics, the 1860 - 1870, the 80 - 90 year old set.

civil war:

Slavery was not the main cause of the war, its certainly played a key part of it. as one poster clearly puts it, it was economics that was the main driving factor. (excessive tariffs, high shipping rates, etc.) Jealousy and envy played a major role in the animosity between northern and southern business interests.

Prior to the civil war, the South accounted for much of the federal treasury, something like 70%.

the war against slavery did not become an issue until 1863, the year Lincoln made his Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. so what was the war about between 1860-1862? there were alot of northern people who were against the war and didn't cotton to freeing the southern blacks.

This is a no win situation. These Bases, whether you agree are not, are named after men who lead an armed revolt against the United States of America in order to preserve the institution of Slavery.

This is NOT an issue worth defending. In fact, the President needs to support the renaming.
Do you support renaming Yale University?

Now they just call it Open Boarders and the H1 and H2 visa programs. Seems less racy or something. Either way, it's still driven by the same old Demonicrats, just like in the past. A different brand image repackaging does no make it OK to be an underclass serving the plantation masters in office..

theres a funny/sad story about that. the immigrants was largely made up the union army. typically, there were desertions, and they would sign up again in another area. this was I undertand away for them to make money.

Why would Jackie, you or I get a vote in the matter? This is up to Yale, the people that run it and the people that work there and matriculate there.

This is none of our business, nor should it be any of our concern whether it is changed or not.

This goes for statues, military bases, names of cities, colleges, roads etc.

I live in Miami Florida with a 20 year stint in New Orleans. My entire life ( 72 years now ) I drove up and down Dixie highway ( US 1 ) but now it's some how a problem and needs an opinion from people who live outside Miami, why? City commissions in Miami-Dade and Ft. Lauderdale are now considering renaming Old Dixie highway. Would I vote to change the name? No, I wouldn't. Would I yell and scream and threaten people if it was changed? No, I wouldn't. It wouldn't make a dimes bit of difference to my life. Take a vote and live with the results. The old saying "what's in a name" has never been more profound. They are names people, get the fuck over it. Just do it by representative vote and live with the result.
