Sorry, but there is a big difference between propaganda and statistics. For real statistics, a person's attitude just does not matter. The numbers, collected the proper way, are the only thing that matters. A few years back the company spent $5000 plus travel and lodging, for a lady who worked for me at the time, to attend a week long course on how to collect sample information correctly; so that it would stand up in court. She received a national certificate on how to collect information. Anyway, the opposing lawyers started asking stupid stuff about how the data was collected, our lawyer presented her certification to the court. They STFU. My certification in sampling theory expired years ago.

There are many ways to cross check the information reported. Blind studies are only one way. Referring to standards are another. Political sampling is a mess, and not the same at all. So why was it such a surprise when Donald Trump won the election?

Understand that for the CCP virus, we were not suckered on the numbers: the numbers were projected, not predicted. There is a big difference. We understand that some people do not trust numbers, but then most of the population didn't get past high school algebra: I find that sad.

The next time you have been drinking and you spot a bunch of cops stopping cars down the road where you are going: don't go there. Change the outcome. You do not want to continue down the same road and have a sobriety check when you know it will get you a DWI.

You understand that you just avoided a DWI, the same way the we have avoided the deaths of thousands of people. We are not out of the woods yet. But things are better than the could (but not would) have been.

My job, deemed essential, involves navigating a hodgepodge of people of different schools of thought. Meaning, some think about avoiding the virus, some just don't give a shit. When I leave the office for the majority of my day, I'm distancing from my customers as much as possible. Face to face contact is now done through the door or not at all.

But, like you say, Lawrence, it's all about the numbers. Maybe I have five direct contacts at the office and one on the street, but I avoid 10-20 contacts during the day. As much as I want it to be so, and as much as I bang my head against the wall when some fool still tries to walk up to me face to face, I know it's never going to be 100%.

Best any of us can expect is to avoid contact as much as possible until we are all clear. I try to be glass half full in my efforts, not thinking I'm 20% exposed, but rather 80% effective.

For those that are trying, don't give up: You are helping others while you try to help yourselves!

You are doing all you can do to avoid getting CCP virus. This thing is serious, but by avoiding direct contact we can limit the number of people infected.

Are you perpetuating the "died with COVID, not from COVID" nonsense? The Chinese do this with seasonal flu deaths to pretend the problem away (e.g. 56 flu deaths in 2016). The US military is now disqualifying those that have had COVID-19 and new studies (that haven't gone through peer review yet, to be fair) have found that the disease knocks a dozen years off your life. I agree that the modeling doesn't seem to have been the greatest but I'm not an expert in computational epidemiology, and my uninformed assumption is that minor changes in the model lead to large changes in outcome given the exponential nature of how viruses spread. Having said all that, the economic impact and impact on those suffering from other diseases, like cancer patients that aren't getting chemo for fear of the virus, shouldn't be dismissed. It's complicated and we need to figure out how to thread the needle.
