Default army kills 7.62 rifle

https://bearingarms.com/tom-k/2017/0...rifle-program/

what would the advantage of having such a 7.62 rifle in the field other than the excuse that the Russians have one?

We need to be teaching marksmanship again. Now we just do "good enough" and rely on technology. Like the man said, "I may not be able to see you at 1,000 yards but if I see you at 800...you're dead." My Garand can make that shot.

Actually the Russians have traditionally made theirs just slightly larger. They can get a loose fit from our ammo into their weapons but we can't do the same.

Military should have addressed that , my Walther will not cycle Russian ammo, however my buddy's Taurus has no problem.

A 7.62 AR style rifle is noticeably heavier than the same in 5.56 caliber. Not overly heavy but still heavier.

The 7 has a balistic advantage, technically, over the 5 by I believe around 250 yards. It's been a few years, so I can't remember exactly.

5.56 ammo is SO MUCH CHEAPER.

I think for an standard issue for infantry, the 5.56 is fine. The m-16 was a 308/7.62x51 but it jammed all the fucking time.

Snipers are already using 30Mags or better. Well, marine snipers were still using .308 but they so wanted to get bigger calibers.

I was always told the reason for the 5.56 cartridge on the M16 is not kill but to wound since a wounded man, so they say, took 4 men out of combat.

The article listed that no support from the ranks was one of the reasons for its cancelation. That's probably because the ranks don't want to "support" the heavy thing on their backs in combat.....

Bigger boom makes sense for snipers, not combat infantry where bigger boom would come at the cost of mobility. And for snipers, the .308 isn't big enough to expand its use.
