A Pegging Question

My SO and I have been talking about this and wanted to find some information. We want to build up to something "normal" sized obviously, but we can't seem to find starter dildos for the harnesses. Any advice or should we just go non-attached toys first and build up to a harness?

Normal would be something along the line of the Feeldoe; and it would mostly be for my backside until we find some female partners. Unfortunately I am on the smaller side so i'm just guessing at "normal".
