Some degree of relief from diet:

L-Lysine pills, take them by the handfull.

Avoid pork, gelatin, peanut proucts, yeast fermented products, bread, beer.

Default 7 weeks into the Shingles Experience

Ok, so It has been 7 weeks since I got this affliction. The blisters and scabs associated
with them are fading away slowly. I keep using triple antibotic ointment on them to keep
from getting any other infection in them(one infection at a time Please). The pains, have
gone from starting at the base of the spine up over the hip to down the side of the groin, very sharp pain... take your breath away type. They are now moving from the left side of the groin outward on the front of the leg to about half way to the knee. They are still sharp pains. I have always been able to endure a fairly high level of pain. I have had level 5 to 7 pain on a constant basis for a number of weeks and tooth ache pain prior to
extraction for a day or so.
This intermittent surprise I gotcha pain has been harder. When I wake up in the morning I hold off taking a pain pill as long as I can. Today until 5 pm. By then It was almost machine gun rapid or bursts. So I took a pill. They have calmed down significantly. I could have supper somewhat peacefully. It is now 830 pm and I will probably take another about 10 so I can get some sleep. Hope you never get this. Get the shot.

Default More of the Shingles experience

I thought I should tell you about another exciting aspect of this wonderful illness. I area on my body that i happen to have affected is from the waist down to the bottom of the groin around the hip to the spine. Basically, the left lower quadrant of the body from just above the knee to the waist. The nerves in this area are affected by anything that happens to the area. If you bump yourself it hurts and burns. Something I had not expected was that the normal activities... such as food moving through the intestines can cause pain. There is nothing wrong with the intestine, it is just that the movement is being detected by these hyper sensitive nerves and giving you pain. Lots of fun after dinner. Of course if you have a fart moving through .... guess what... PAIN. All those little activities that you have never noticed before now cause pain. So if you get this Illness (God Forbid) and you can't figure why it is hurting so much, It is just your body doing what it normally does only now it hurts. So get the shingles shot. Unless of course you are masochistic, in which case you will have the time of your life.

Default 7 Weeks into this Hell called shingles

Seven weeks into the shingles Hell. The pain keeps moving around the affected area, getting Just slightly less with each move. At this point I dont know if is because the pain is getting less or my body is getting used to it. Last weekend it started changing. it went from a stabbing pain intermittently to a more constant diffuse pain. Also the effect of the pain pills...percocet 10 mg is becoming less and less effective. at the same time I tried something new. I don't know if it caused the change or if i happened to start it at the time the illness was changing anyway. I found some info on line about people using Colleidal silver both on the outside and inside. So sunday i got some. splashed it on the outside...I dont know that at the stage i am that it does any good since my scabs are pretty much healed and just have scars.... but my skin still burns to the touch. So I figured what the hell it cant hurt. anyway, i also took about two or three teaspoons of the stuff. Well sunday afterward for about eight hours i felt just yuukey... When i got up on monday morning the pain was not a stabbing pain anymore but diffuse as previously described. I did the same monday and it was better on tuesday, same tuesday and the pain did not improve but didnt get worse on wednesday. However, my pain pills seem to do very little. The pain pills may relax me or make me tired but they do not seem to lessen the pain. Wednesday night I even did something I knew I shouldnt do. I had four stiff ... strong.. drinks along with taking one pill before and one after. Im tired but the pain is still there. Soooo I dont know what I can do. I guess suffer. If I was sure it would help I would consider voodoo. I guess that is it for this week. I sure hope this does some good for someone.

Prevention. Add a lot of berries to your diet (antioxidents). Dark chocolate, natural cocoa. Anything that has natural anti oxidents

You have my sympathy, where I have the burning is bad enough, where you got it must be even worse. Try some of the colloidal silver, external and internal. I think it is actually doing something for me... sloooowly but I think it is helping. If you find something that really helps please share.

Sounds delicious, but wouldn't getting vaccinated be more effective?

Most times, shingles are triggered by stress...

Default End of week 8 shingles... AAArg go away`

It gets very tiring to constantly have pain, regardless of the level. At Monday morning My pain was a constant grinding pain in the back about level 6 or 7... out of 10 and jolts of
10 every few minutes. Things had actually gotten a little better from the previous week, in that, I could actually get some pain relief if I took enough pain pills. I started on 25 mg lyrica the previous week, and it hadent done anything that I noticed. I started on 75mg lyrica monday night. Woke up tuesday morning and i was different. The pain was diffused around my body so that it did not hurt too bad. There was a feeling that the pain was spread over my body and there were just a few lumps where the pain was a little worse.... not real terrible or the level it was before, just a few lumps of pain in the areas where the pain was previously the worse. I made an appointment with the doctor and we adjusted the level down to 50 mg twice a day. by tuesday night about 4 hours after the 50 mg pills, I am up as usual on the computer so I thought I would write this. I only have pain in the area that was worse previously.... in the back from the spine towards the left hip. otherwise most of the pain is gone. when I eat i do have pain in the gut as the food makes its way around the left side where the shingles are messing with the nerves. That pain goes away as the food makes its way through. I suppose most guys would be interested in the effects on junior. since the nerves affected are from my spine in the lower back down my buttox, from the waist down front and back to the croch and down the left leg to almost to the knee. Junior.. the main portion is not affected so far... but the forskin is to a small extent. since getting this malady i noticed that it felt like the forskin was getting chaffed or once in a while it would sting, like there may be a sore on it....but there was nothing... I finally realized it was the nerves acting like there was something wrong when there wasant, just like the rest of the affected nerves.... there is nothing wrong it is just the nerve sending the signal that there was something wrong. I was releaved with that realization.. Also I do not know what effect this medication will have on junior. I will probablly take him for a test run and make sure he can do his job...I SURE HOPE SO. Anyway, the pain is better and i can sleep. Oh that is something i should mention. the lyrica makes me sleepy... Im not sure if its because I finally can sleep or it is from the lyrica. I will let you know, thanks for your interest. HMFICDICK

My Mom got shingles this year. She is 80. She didn't experience the burning feeling. Instead for her, she said it felt like someone punched her really really hard. She had it on her lower back/butt/hips. She didn't take any pain medication. She has a high tolerance for pain...esp. seeing she had 5 kids and one pain in the ass husband. She said she was prescribed: 800 mg of ACYCLOVIR. She was to take 1 tablet 5x a day for 7 days.

I have not had the experience but this link is very helpful. I drink bragg apple cider vinegar every day. It does wonders for your body.
