Enjoy reading your perspective on this topic and others that I have noticed you on. We can each have an opinion without getting into petty name calling like some.

I honor those OUTSTANDING men & women on multiple occasions annually & have since I can remember.
In fact
Did so just last weekend.
My fond memories of Muhammad Ali.. In NO WAY DILUTES my passion for My COUNTRY'S HEROES.. both MEN & WOMEN
I have heroes for EVERY category in MY LIFE.
& I can just guarantee you ...you may not even know , acknowledge or agree with any or all.
That's where the term "MY" is not a debatable issue ..really.

And you have every right to your opinion just like I do. No disrespect to you for stating it,just like I have the right to state mine.
Ali was a great boxer and worked on other noble causes in society.

However to ME he was not a hero.

First of all...I am approx 10 years older than you.
I saw a man who stood up for what he believed in.
A heart of gold & full of determination despite all the obstacles he faced! He was much more than an athlete...
And I could care less if you agree...I don't base my opinions or feelings upon your approval.
Be safe everyone.

Cut out all that passive aggressive bullshit. I simply stated "really..." No need to explain to me why you feel this way. Really we all know you just say stuff to say it and try to fit in but none the less, here's the facts!

Here is a man that refused to serve his country cause he said the white people were his enemy.

I served my country as well as many others. I find him to be a coward. No hero of mine.

Define passive-aggressive... and your opinion is as important to as..as mine is to you... Do what you want with that.

Fascinating how the passage of time tempers the fact, much like JFK, that roughly 50% of the country absolutely hated this man's guts.

While I don't share any of the real vitriol myself, i'm an army brat who later served, and I was raised in an officer's household. You couldn't bring up this man's name without a lecture.

With respect, the men and women of service are ALL to be honored and respectected, I truly feel this way. Should my children, loved ones, or friends choose to serve, in any respect, I would consider them a "hero" and feel all other Americans under the protection of their diligence and sacrifice should so as well. That's just my opinion though.

But with specific regard to myself, the men, women, that I call most "heroic" are the men and women on the "front lines." I feel there is a distinct difference between "support staff" who are serving and those with boots on the ground putting life and limb on the line in direct conflict.

I respectfully accept that this perspective may not resonate with others and it perhaps comes from the fact that in my job, it is literally MY life and limbs that are at risk when I am at work and the "support staff" who's jobs are vital and necessary to me and my coworkers in the field, sit back in the safety of their offices and expose themselves to little to no risk.

Basically, in my opinion, the army "payroll clerk" is to be honored for their service, but as a "grunt" on the front line, I'd find it extremely offensive for them to say that others should have served because they did. There ARE, two distinct levels of service.

"Where the rubber meets the road."

Please, all enjoy and be well. Great discussion here. Thank you all for your perspectives and invaluable input. 😃

I certainly hope, that with time, the terrible decisions, bad choices & undesirable moments of my youthful personal life will diminish in time by the good deeds & abilities to help others In my mature adult life.
In my life I saw the amazing things he did for people he never even met. He changed ...& changed many lives throughout his life despite his descision of his youth.
I make my heros not based on their bad choices ...Right Gemma.. But on who they are today, how they positively effect my life or the good that they do for others.
I am sure he more than paid consequences for that specific event his whole life...
