There is a video on Porn Hub of a couple getting it on in a Tesla going down the highway and another one was on the news yesterday of a dum ass in California sleeping while his Tesla was cruising down the highway. All cool & fun till some innocent bystanders get hurt or worse.

Worldwide, 1.25 million people per year die in car crashes. So are more people going to die now? And if so, why? Is sleeping in a self driving car more dangerous than falling asleep at the wheel in a Camry?

"Self Driving" is a broad and tricky term. Most Teslas are not "autonomously fully self driving." You are supposed to have your hands on the wheel or near the wheel during "AutoPilot."

Although I agree that thousands are killed in car wrecks every year and in the long run MOST of us are safer with a computer driving than a human..eventually some kids are going to be killed walking to school by a SDC. Then there's going to be a lot of societal soul searching.

Also, there will be cameras inside and outside the vehicle streaming everything, along with GPS. So good luck leaving an audit trail for your wife.

Have you driven the new Camrys with "driver assist?" They piss me off. You'll be driving down the highway when someone passes you and it feels like you're being blown across the lane by a strong gust of wind. The computer driving is compensating for a car being by you. And if you get too close to the vehicle in front of you it presses the brake. So a car passing you on the highway may trigger the brakes which triggers the cruise control to disengage.

But to answer your question, you're likely safer being asleep in a SDC. Hopefully, in the long run less people will die.

They say, that in the end, everyone dies. I believe it, too.

You are correct a Tesla does use software that can be tracked. Your Tesla app stores all that information. However, you can turn off the car ability to track you.

OnStar (sold on all Chevrolet) offers a service to track where a car has been driven, location, time vehicle was turned off. OnStar will charge $.012 per mile tracked.

For a $150, from Amazon a magnetic GPS tracking device, about the size of a $1 can be attached on your car and all the information can be down loaded on an app on a phone.

Worst yet, all you need is to download some software on your phone and an app on another phone and you can be tracked. Personally I am more afraid of my phone tracking me than Tesla,OnStar or a GPS. Another reason to have a burner phone. Leave your regular phone at the office.
