Alannah,
You are correct. LEO does not have the time, funds, man-power to hunt misdemeanors. Either her or one of her close acquaintances were active targets of LEO for something else. Once targeted, yes LEO can easily track.

Correct, but LEO says what they say, and wave the results for all to see, so they can get more federal funding to run more of these. Note that LEO's expenses for these stings also include a lot of LEO back office expenses that get to be "charged" to the cost of the operation. Thus, ordinary LEO expenses that would be local taxpayer expense, are then paid for by federal grants. In essence, a money making budget thing for local LEO.

To close, if any particular hotel happens to be heavily frequented by backpage (using the phrase for descriptive purposes) gals, LEO will notice, and LEO will start taking license plates and monitoring the wireless (capturing IP addresses) as the equipment used is rather inexpensive.

@Unique_Carpenter Thank you for the explanation. Follow the money.

Nice to see our tax dollars at work. (Could be spent on more important projects, IMHO.)

Only as much as you take careful measures to ensure. It's really not terribly difficult to use a site such as this in a way that is very private.

1. Download a Tor Browser
2. Use Tor Browser to set up the email account that you are going to use to register on site like this. Preferably create an account on an anonymous email service hosted somewhere such as Switzerland. Proton is one example. NEVER access this email account from anything except Tor browser.

3. Use Tor browser to set up account here. Use the new email account to register. Once again, NEVER log in to this site (or similar sites) from anything other than Tor browser, and don't accept cookies. Also, don't use Tor browser in same session to log into any other sites with your personal information in it.

Not that difficult for peace of mind that if a server is taken over or monitored by LEO that any IP addresses linked to your account will only lead to one useless rabbit hole after another.

I think if you try to really fall off the radar completely its a bad thing as well. What I do in my private life is probably not as shunned by the government as one would think. I am sure as hell not hurting any one and according to Maslow and his hierarchy of needs the services I provide are actually pretty useful and doing such a great job at what I do makes me a fucking awesome lady. I sometimes try to put someones number or an email they sent me in beenverifed and often can't hardly even verify or screen them at all - probably due to all the covert operation type of stuff. I don't have much to hide and I don't dick anyone around so I feel like I don't need to be hidden - human trafficking sucks and its good to see that any one involved are getting fucked off. That's what they get! I feel like big brother is probably always watching and feel comfortable - its when you go to great lengths to fall off the radar that you attract the most attention to yourself cuz it makes them probably think why are they going to such great lengths. It makes sense. Also, I know for damn sure she would have went down for a lot longer on a possession charge than anything else aside from human trafficking I don't know what they do to punish people that do that... but I hope its pretty damn severe.

I use a VPN, and search for excite through duck duck go. Any issues with that? Not sure I want to go the Tor route. Oh, Eccie does collect your IP address to ensure you don’t have multiple handles. It would suck if they lost all that info.....

Not all VPN's are "private". One of the most popular VPNs, Nord, is based in Panama, where we kidnapped a dictator and imprisoned him in a South Miami "Club Fed" until releasing him just before he died...

Panama has no privacy laws. Zero. None. Zilch. Nada. They have one rule, however - "Whoever has the most gold makes the rules."

Use any Google products? Facebook products like WhatApp? Outlook products like Skype?

Burner cell phone or burner cell phone app?

Disposable email addresses?

The list goes on and on.....

Good post.

But something else to consider is LE resources.

They're going to dedicate plenty of resources (bothering to get a warrant, multiple people working on the case, etc...) if they think you're running a major human trafficking ring.

They're going to dedicate some resources (a persistent detective/agent, a warrant, etc...) if they think you're a pimp.

How much time and effort do you think they're spending to track down a single hobbyist, or even a single provider? My guess is that they don't unless it's a sting set up to catch a bunch all at once. They're not going to get a warrant to try to catch one guy that is paying for pussy.

As of the passage of the Patriot Act subsequent to 09/11, LE and Intel agencies do not have to obtain a court warrant to monitor, record, and capture anything (1) that is transmitted via a cellular signal; (2) That uses the interwebs as a conduit.

The so-called "rolling wiretap" exception.

As an interesting tidbit, the top 3 officials at the FBI at the time all wrote letters to then President G.W. Bush, all stating that they felt that the "rolling wiretap" exception to obtaining a warrant from a judge was unConstitutional.

They were: (drum roll, please):

1. Robert Mueller, then Director of the FBI;

2. James Comey, then Deputy Director of the FBI, and

3. Rod Rosenstein, Assistant Director of the FBI.

If Dementia Donald thinks that his 04:00 AM tweets and firing Jeff Sessions as AG is going to rattle the Mueller Investigation, he is as demented about that as he is everything else.

Any one of them has ball bigger than Dementia Donald's ego.

For the denialists out there who continue to bleat, "I'm too small (no shit, we know that already) for them to bother", you are in total denial of what FOSTA / SESTA did. It basically took what was a misdemeanor handled at a local prosecutor level (First time solicitation was a misdemeanor in most states.) and turned using the Internet for ANY hobby related activities into a FEDERAL OFFENSE PUNISHABLE BY $250,000 IN FINES AND A MINIMUM 10 YEAR PENALTY. If you think that an ambitious rookie Federal Prosecutor won't get some career traction by conducting a multi-state, 100 or 200 arrest sweep for "human traficking" by monitoring, hypothetically, ECCIES IPN log files (since they don't need to get a warrant to do so) and then issuing a sweeping Federal indictment for all of those who didn't bother to mask their IPN address before logging into their favorite website, all I have to say is,

When you receive your summons to appear in front of a federal Judge, please let me know your source of the clearly superior shit you've been smoking.

The so-called "rolling wiretap" exception.
It seems that you have no idea what a rolling wiretap is, or you're being purposefully misleading.

That's a very creative interpretation. I'm not sure we'll know exactly how FOSTA/SESTA will shake out, legally, but I'm almost (we do have to deal with a loose cannon in charge of the Executive Branch, which is law enforcement) positive that your description is WAY off the mark.

I am not saying the person in the link isn't being truthful or just looking to add funds to a gofundme account. I'm just a skeptic.

Pretty much exactly this ^^^

I have worked in technology for a long time and am well versed with using VPNs, TOR and TailsOS...but all of these measures are overkill if you are just a hobbyist (or provider) in the US.

First, these controls only create an illusion of privacy. Browsers have very complex and unique signatures (even when you have cookies disabled, or are in "incognito" mode), that can be easily traced back to your identity, even if you are using a VPN. And both VPNs and the TOR network have notable weakness - in each case related to potential compromise and/or locality of the exit nodes.

Second (and more importantly)...Law Enforcement DOES NOT CARE!!! As someone who has worked in intelligence in a past life, I can assure you that Uncle Sam has zero interest in going after two consenting adults who enter into a mutually agreeable transaction related to sex. Law enforcement is interested in the real problems on the internet (human trafficking, child crimes, etc...)
