Beyond Vanilla - Anyone Going?

I emailed asking about some of the volunteer opportunities they have listed, Elizabeth. I would really like to go to this. I hear Chi is freaky right now though, so it might be an all play (no work) expedition. We'll see.

I enjoy the seminars; the mix of knowledgeable and newbie. You always learn something, no matter how 'advanced' you (or others) think you are.

I freely admit to not knowing much. Not compared to this group. I'm pretty much a newbie although I read a lot!

With Chicago, I'm still interested. I'll try posting something on the Chicago thread and go from there.

To answer the original question, I was somewhat disappointed in Beyond Vanilla. For a few reasons, actually. Maybe surprise is the answer.

First, I was completely shocked at the quantity of larger people there. Please, don't get me wrong. I'm a BIG woman. And I don't appreciate prejudice with overweight people.

But the people there were, overall, HUGE. So that was a surprise.

Secondly, I thought there would be more people in attendance. It really wasn't a big gathering at all. I know these events are costly to set up, and I didn't see that many people.

I didn't go to the play parties or stay up late, generally. (Might have to change that if I go to Chicago!) So I didn't see those activities, which I heard was fun.

The classes were very good. And I learned something from all of them. I did meet some really interesting people and so overall, it was really worth the time and funds to go.

And the vendors were great!

I guess that although I said that I didn't have expectations, perhaps I did. Need to be aware of that in the future! Overall, it just wasn't the "experience" that I was expecting, though.

I agree with you here, Elizabeth. I was disappointed in the general attractivness of the crowd. It was small in number... but not is girth.

My pet & I are not Ken & Barbie, though we are height/weight proportionate & fit. I know this is going to sound cocky but she was the "Belle of the Ball", something I did not expect. Quite a crowd gathered when we went to play in the dungeon.

Possible theory: Big girls do not get as much attention from men as they would like. So in order to get more attention, some are willing to do/allow things that a more traditionally beautiful woman would not put up with. Thus the disproportionate number of BBW's in the BDSM community. I generally feel the same way about the crowd at Sanctuary.

Thoughts?
