Except for rare individuals...vegan diets aren't good for anyone....human beings are not vegetarians....we are omnivores......

Look at any animal that is an actual vegetarian....like a horse or a cow....they have huge multi-chambered stomachs for digesting vegetable matter and equally huge flat teeth for grinding it up.

The fact is that EVERY animal on this planet with canine teeth are equipped to eat meat....including us! This is NOT an excuse to go eat greasy BBQ all the time however....use common sense!

A vegan diet does not provide the necessary proteins or essential fats that a human being requires....especially a child which need higher amounts of essential(animal) fats for brain development and growth.

Also....the human body takes dietary cholesterol........a low density lipotropin.....which only comes from animal sources and uses it to produce various hormones the body requires.....like testosterone and estrogen...and while some of these LDL's can be produced by the liver....you still need moderate amounts of dietary cholesterol to be healthy....yes that's right....moderate amounts of cholesterol is not evil.

This is why the few men I know who are vegans all seem to have very low sex drives and poor muscle mass.....as in skinny!

These stories you hear about babies and toddlers fed vegan diets...the poor child is always skinny....under weight for its age and malnourished......stupid fucking parents!!!

One reason some parents who feed their children vegan diets have been charged with child abuse are the B vitamins. B vitamins are difficult to get from a totally vegetarian source and are necessary for brain development. There are other issues with vegan diets but B vitamins deficiency is a nasty problem. I particularly like the website: https://authoritynutrition.com/ for nutrition research results.

i've always wondered about the nuances of the vegan diet. people (adults not children) swear by it that they are healthy than they ever were before.

i note that the infamous Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian.

I have a child with special needs and tried to the vegan, gluten free diet for him. Didn't work. He didn't like any of the foods and he would often get sick. I said screw the books and doctors and let him eat what we are eating. He's 11 now and just fine. He will always have his issues, going vegan doesn't cure it. I'm glad I didn't force it; some parents do. I love meat and potatoes and so does he. I feel bad for the kids who cant make the decisions themselves. We all need meat.

Vegans are funny people. If you want a good laugh get on YouTube and search "Vegan Gains" This guy claims to be a Vegan Bodybuilder he bashes bodybuilders who eat animal protein and of course they are all steroid abusers according to him, lol.

No he's not on any gear. He's actually 6'3" and 180 if he's lucky. He also photo shops his pics. I've many of his videos. He's a slight bit crazy and thinks by being a Vegan he's saving animals. What he doesn't seem to realize is domesticated animals we use as food such as Cow, Pigs, Lamb, Chickens ect. Can't be anything but domesticated they can't fend for themselves they are bred that way. I see him as a cocky little two bit Liberal who really doesn't know as much about nutrition as he thinks he does. If anyone is eating a balanced diet by eating Beef, Chicken and Fish along with a variety of vegetables you would be just fine. If someone opts to be a Vegan that's fine too, but don't ever expect to get on a Mr. Olympia stage, lol.

To be fair, the bodybuilding community is pretty rife with people who use steroids.

I think it's possible, but extremely difficult due to the relatively low calories:weight that vegetables have compared to meat. You already have to eat a huge amount of food on a regular diet and the amount of volume you'd have to eat on a vegan diet has to be insane.

The only American weightlifter in the 2016 Olympics this year is on a vegan diet, so it has to at least be doable:

Competitive Bodybuilding is all about Steroids especially on the professional level. But you can still build an aesthetic physique without them. But you still have to eat properly. A vegan diet in strength sports is probably doable but I would think you would have to get complete proteins from heavy supplementation.

Default Vegan and Vegetarian Diets are NOT natural

Lucky 1 is exactly correct. Human beings are not naturally vegetarians, we are omnivores. This is made obvious by the fact that there are a number of essential Vitamins and nutrients (essential meaning we cannot make them ourselves and cannot complete necessary life-sustaining reactions without them) that are found ONLY in meats and not in vegetables, nuts, dairy or other non-meat sources. This is why both vegetarians and vegans must take supplements in order to survive on this diet.
As Lucky mentioned, cows and other vegetarian animals often have multiple stomachs. They regurgitate their food back and forth from stomach to stomach in order to get every possible nutrient out of the food because there is simply very little fat/caloric value in vegetables. They also possess certain enzymes that we do not which allow them to get all the Vitamins and nutrients they need to survive.
Both vegan and vegetarian diets are dangerous, unnatural and can be potentially deadly if the proper nutrients are not obtained in another form. This diet is especially dangerous for children and adolescents as they are still growing. Their bodies and especially their brains need not only a lot of energy at this time, but also a larger amount of the vitamins, minerals and other proteins that are present only in meats. I personally believe that putting a child on such a restrictive diet is tantamount to child abuse, or at the very least, neglect.

Yeah, I think we're in agreement. It's possible to bodybuild without steroids, but you pretty much won't be able to be competitive without it if competition is your goal.

A vegan diet could theoretically be possible, but you likely have to be even stricter and more controlled with your diet than with an omnivorous diet to make sure you get all the nutrients, calories, protein, etc. that you need.

Back to the OP though, a vegan diet would probably be possible for a parent raising a child, but likely has high potential for fuckups due to how careful you have to be with those diets in order to maintain proper nutrition, especially for a growing human.

We don't need meat. That's what the factory farming industry wants you to think. I'm healthier and happier than I've ever been. Humans live longer and look better in old age on a vegan diet with regular exercise and meditation. You're digesting suffering. Think about how that effects your spiritual, emotional, and physical bodies. Going vegan is THE BEST change I've EVER made. I recommend it to everyone trying to rise out of depression or lose weight. Have a kickass day. Bye

Well I'll be strictly honest with you on a few points. First of all genetics plays a pretty big factor in bodybuilding as well as power lifting. Coupled with workouts that work for you along with the proper diet and supplementation and intermittent cycles of androgens one can make real good progress. All of the above minus the drugs you may lack the extra size but you can still be quite aesthetic. As far as a vegan diet for the average person, I don't think it would be problematic in particular health wise. Most vegans are rather slender. I am a hard gainer as a weightlifter so a vegan diet probably wouldn't work well for me especially since I prefer to train naturally.
