My private message inbox is full and I need to clean it our. I see how to put check marks next to messages but I don't see how to delete. Can someone enlighten me?

Go to the bottom of the messages, there is a drop down menu probably set to inbox. Change it to delete....

then also go back to top and do same for outgoing
