I am a child of the 80s and remember the end of the muscle car area. I remember those cars: GTO, Charger, Superbee, Camero, 442, and many others when they were just old cars.

I love them, love the memories, but sorry guys NOTHING SOUNDS or SMELLS like OLD MUSCLE!

NOTHING sounds like a 1968 Dodge Charger. All of today's cars including present day Muscle (yes that includes todays Dodge Challenger and the Chevy Camero) sound like wind up toys. Nothing beats the speed and agility of Modern Muscle, but they just don't sound like old school muscle.

Good thread, D_J. I have been reading about the new C8 and really like it! If the bidding wars don't get too out of hand, and the dealers don't get GCS, I may have to take a shot at reliving my days in my '68 Z-28.

A bit off topic here, but this looks like a fun weekend. https://www.nmcadigital.com/copo/

Drag racing is okay, but I'm more of a SCCA person myself

Great bang for the buck concerning it's a mid engine car with a 495 hp V8 engine.

one of the things that strikes me is the clear resemblance of the c7 and c8.

here is a similar angle of the c7 .. the c8 at a glance looks like an updated version of the c7.

that it is a complete redesign in terms of the engine placement yet is very similar to the c7 is interesting.

also the horsepower rating will be interesting. the quoted rating for the base model is similar to the base model c7. the Z06 is rated at 650 hp, the ZR1 is rated at 755.

an article i read the other day for the release said that the mid-engine design was needed because at 755 hp for the ZR6 had reached its design limits for a front engine design. i can believe that given the problems faced with a front engine design versus weight balance. much easier with a mid-engine design to get to the holy grail of 50/50 balance. this of course is a point of contention among automotive designers with respect to handling.

here is another side profile of the new c8 ..

this looks like a Ferrari. if you replaced the chevy badge with the prancing horse and the red paint you'd take it for a new Ferrari design.

of course Chevy has flirted with a mid-engine Vette before. some designs were striking .. others .. not so much.

this looks like a Lambo ..

don't like this prototype much .. looks like a fucked up Lotus

this probably came the closest to going into production .. looks like a McLaren

this was designed to honor Zora Arkus-Duntov, not sure he'd be honored or not .. i'm not ..

i think the current design is excellent and will easily compete with the euro super-cars. the c7 in fact already does. both Road and Track and Car and Driver rate it as the best super-car dollar wise in the world. they are right.

to out-class the c7 ZR1 you'd have to spend twice the price for just a little gain in performance.

From what I’ve seen so far online....I’m really diggin’ this car.....and for a mid-engine in that price range, Chev may have to really ramp up production....ijs

Change is inevitably going to happen. It has to or we are stagnant or go backwards. The last 2 are not a good option.

My '06 C6 Z06 was a lot better than the C5.
The C7 is even better.
I would be very interested in a C8.

From a world perspective, Scotty Kilmer sounds like a typical Texan. Other notable TX voices:

Ross Perot probably #1
Matthew McConaughey - often imitated, never duplicated
Lyndon Johnson LBJ
ZZ Top

I'd be surprised if they ramped up much. Maybe a little but there is value in keeping production at traditional levels. The Corvette has always been a good investment and for that reason it attracts a certain type of buyer. I dont think Chevy wants to change that. It will hurt the prestige and value that loyalists covet.

You’re likely right bm....similar when Dodge brought back the Demon...a guy I work with thats a huge Mopar fan got on the waiting list when it was announced but with production being only 3300 if I remember correctly....the bidding wars got real crazy, real fast....

leave it to noted car freak Jay Leno to preview the new mid-engine Vette. no road test however.

this link has a set of photos of all the colors offered on the new Vette. the car looks like a Ferrari. Saw some comments on the link Russ posted that said it looked like a Ferrari knockoff. don't agree with that at all. it will be interesting to see how this car's performance compares to the euro stuff. the c8 already easily matches all but a few euro cars.

https://news.yahoo.com/see-2020-chev...154200583.html

or you can just see them here ..

rainbow bahahaaaa not an option just a teaser

rapid blue (is there a slow blue??)

accelerate yellow

sebring orange tintcoat

torch red

long beach red metallic tintcoat

zeus bronze metallic (yes .. zeus)

elkhart lake blue metallic (i didn't make this stuff up!!)

shadow gray metallic

ceramic matrix gray metallic

blade sliver metallic

artic white

black

some funny color names. so what's your fav? since i think the car closely resembles a Ferrari i'd be tempted to get torch red as a play on Ferrari lovers. Black looks cool. the darker blue (elkhart lake blue metallic) has a nice look.
