Actually Chicago ranks 8th in the U.S. for murders per capita. St. Louis has more than double the murders per capita than Chicago. But I agree that the state is a mess.

I think I read somewhere that 5 people move out of the state every day or something like that. I tour there occasionally and the roads are a mess- construction still going that was there 2 years ago yet they started even more construction. Every 10 miles it's down to one lane at 55 on the interstate. Never actually seen any construction workers however. It really is a mess.

It was the focus of an investigation years ago as to the underlying factors in comparative murder rates in that case: St. Louis vs. D.C. with D.C. at the time having the higher firearm "murder rate" and St. Louis having a higher assault by firearm rate. It turned out that St. Louis "EMS" had faster response times than did D.C., and consequently fewer deaths by firearms. In those days there were still a lot of vets with field experience in treating gunshot wounds. The number of experienced vets is increasing recently due to the various multiple deployments in past 15+ years.

Are they all comin' to Texas....? I've met a couple dozen-plus people the past 12-24 months thru biz (or at Ranger games) that have relocated here (Dallas) from the Chicago-area. (They don't mind sharing the fact they're Cubbie fans either....)
