What got me about that whole situation is when the workers were doing the work to take the first few down, they were out there with COP guards, wore full face masks to hide their identity and did it at MIDNIGHT.. I am sorry, but to me that shows they did it to AVOID any public scrutiny..

the mayor of new orleans is delusional. don't know what his game is, but all of this shit could have been avoided. He left behind his common sense in the toilet.

He lied that removal won't cost the city. It cost the city 2 million in other city resources in securing & moving the monuments.

He could have:
-left the monuments in place
-hold a public meeting on where to relocate the monuments
-finalized the decision on where the monuments are to be located
-move the monuments

all of this could have been done cheaply without expending city resources & without incurring anger. Masking would not be needed and work would be done during the day.

I do think this has to do with next years 300 year anniversary celebration and the monuments would clash with the progressive image of New Orleans they wanted to project.
