Very constructive - as usual.

Did one read the Op's article???

Trump should authorize a thorough OMB and DOJ investigation into where this huge sum went in Kalifornia
How much has been siphoned off in graft and corruption - much less incompetence and Kalifornia ecologic idiots opposing their own State's plan for a hog trough for the Nomenklatura of Kalifornia.

This boondoggle needs a thorough investigation into underlying wrongdoing!!!

BYW - perhaps it was the Russians, Nazis, and those who DKTS that pocketed the money!!!
California is a state in the US. You don't care about America. I know your not a citizen but you should either embrace our laws or leave. Marrying Moscow Ellen doesn't qualify you as a dreamer

TM/SC/YR - Your usual projection of your "opinion" on others of whom you know nothing.
Kalifornia has made $77BILLION disappear into its morass of DPST politicians
That obviously concerns you not!
Wasting $77BILLION of taxpayer money on a boondoggle concerns me greatly.

Kalifornia should adhere to their signed contract and return the money.
Or, did Constructionist participate in pocketing the money - Afraid of an investigation into the admitted mis-management and "lack of transparency" in Kalifornia?? (Quote Newsom)

Venezuela is enjoyable this time of year, and Maduro is very welcoming of any American money and investment he can get his hands on!!

Please post something cogent and constructive!
Glad One can consult Google to learn the States in the Union!
Russians, Nazis, and DKYS!

California politicians are talking about having an autobahn on some hwys in lieu of the high speed train.

so, on some hwys, a driver can drive 80 - 100mph on certain lanes. kinda like the german autobahn

Good one- DF
Perhaps the autobahn in Kalifornia would help with DPST population control!
It can be built with AOC's $3Billion profit from denying Amazon!

Well if you are trying to be green then running a regular gas engine at 80-Mph is not normally very green and many of the electric vehicles or hybrids running in green electric mode only can't reach those speeds and drastically drain their batteries at those speeds.

But as usual the need to pretend to do something green, oftentimes just shows the overall hypocrisy of the situation. They want to protect their funds, that's it. Doesn't matter if it's really green.

Hey, I said many of them and I think even the Tesla at that speed reported significant reduction in their range as it drains the battery quickly.

The point being that to generate those rechargeable vehicles at that sort of pace means burning additional fossil fuels if demand increases in order to increase the speed.

They want to keep their funds by saying they can meet some newly induced artificial goal for "high speed" travel. They won't have their rail system finished so they need something.

who says one would have to do 80 the whole way? Once again you're making shit up. The beauty of the autobahn is that there is no speed limit.

But I do believe the topic is about a high speed rail and not an autobahn. And high speed rails have proven to be a good thing. There's a reason America makes up less than 1/4 of the worlds population yet it consumes over half of the worlds oil. Because of the ignorance from the right.

Might want to do a little fact-checking! Actually, the US accounts for about 20% of the world's oil production, not "over half." (Although it is home to just a little over 4% of the world's population.)

Also, note that we do account for about 25% of the globe's GDP, so per unit of economic output (the way "carbon intensity" is generally measured), at least with respect to oil consumption, we do better than the global average. (By the way, all in all we account for about 15% of the world's CO2 emissions.)

Speaking of high-speed rail, just a couple of other reasons it isn't likely to take off in the US are that heavily traveled city pairs are much, much further apart than in Europe, and air travel (on Southwest and various commuter airlines) is much cheaper.

I never said you would have to do 80 the whole way. You are making shit up now.

And the topic was about the billions of wasted dollars on high speed rail, the cutoff by Trump of future funding, and the exploration of getting some of those funds back from California for improperly using them and never delivering.

Now some weasel California Pols are trying to justify keeping their funding and possibly even getting more by replacing the whole first leg of the high speed rail with Autobahn like highways. What a cop out.

That does essentially none of the goals of the high speed rail except possibly meet the high speed caveat and possibly reduce some highway congestion. It does basically nothing to reduce the green part of the high speed rail, which was big selling point in CA for it.

But as I said, anything to keep their funds that as the OP points out have been cutoff by Trump and they may even have to pay some back. So much for some of Newsome's touted budget surplus.
