One homeless vet begging is one too many. I want our kids to have plenty of food. If you have ever helped out in a food pantry - you will see little kids coming in with gaunt looks. ONE of these kids going hungry is one too many. Very shocking I know. I could go on but I think you get the point.

There is a nationalist movement taking place and why I sense that the Donald will be POTUS #45 . We all have our issues for voting for a particular candidate, but this time around I agree with Ellen. The country is sick from all the plutocrats and corrupt politicians in DC and this is a time for change. Lets' all hope that whatever happens tomorrow, our newly elected leaders will realize that we need more than words to heal this great country. Be sure to voice your opinion by going out and vote!!

The point in my opinion is that we are still, despite Trump's opinion as stated at the DNC, the greatest country in the world. We can share some of our wealth with others around the world who need it more than some Americans. I certainly see people on street corners asking for money. They have shoes. Then have clothes. They look fairly well fed and they almost always have something to drink in their hands. Compare that to people in Africa and war-torn countries who have NOTHING.

To be honest, the one thing I hate most about the current Republican agenda is just what you stated -- let's turn the U.S. into an isolationist country. Build walls. Stop, or at least dramatically slow, immigration. Forget about others around the world. It's all about ME.

According to a study done by the Statesman (fwiw) a while back, most of those "homeless" folks, the average intake in cash is $110 a day.. not great money, but geeze, it's obviously a "choice" for some. That's may account for the panhandler on the corner and 2-5 "HELP WANTED" signs in windows within 2-3 blocks.

When I said all about "me", I was meaning "me" as "citizens of the U.S.", not you personally.

I'd be interested to know what country or countries in the world you consider to be superior to the U.S.? Especially in the freedoms that its citizens have.

Thanks for the response. I don't even look at anything from Breitbart since it is one of the most right-wing biased sources out there. First, I will say that it's impossible to be ranked #1 in every single category when ranking countries on various criteria.

Even using the information from your first link for freedomhouse.org., the U.S gets the highest rating possible for Political Rights, Civil Liberties, and Freedom Rating. The trend is down according to them which is worrisome.

I just don't see the U.S. right now as all about 'me' And I can tell by your question that we will never see the world the same way. Other countries are superior to the USA in certain things - healthcare and aging for example. I have lived in German and visited every western European country and I have seen this. However, and I want to be clear here, I love the U.S.A.- I don't want to move to another country - I want to fix ours. You said you saw people on the street begging but they have shoes and clothes. That's not good enough. We need to get them housing and mental health care. I remember a time when I never saw anybody begging on streets and I use to never see military veteran's begging.
It's shameful. As far as freedoms and rights? Oh yes, we have them. But now - the more money you have - the more freedoms and rights you have.

You do realize that many, and I don't know how many, homeless people WANT to live on the street or in the woods. They don't want to put up with the rules and regulations that are enforced in facilities for the homeless. And many are thrown out because they can't follow the simple rules. My church supports the Community First village and has so far built 2 homes for the homeless. But there are rules to stay there. You must have a source of income for one. Far from a perfect life but I would consider it MUCH better than being homeless. And, believe it or not, it is difficult to find candidates for the homes.
