The only reason that Drumpy rage posted about the FISA process, is that it was part of the pant-load of information that caught some of the grubby bastards on his payroll doing exactly what they were accused of doing. Manafort, Flynn, Papadopolous and others were indeed- looking to get dirt and information from a foreign source, and needed to be pardoned. Ha- a pardon doesn't mean innocence. It means guilty - just like all the other fucko's from that corrupt administration. Even if we were to strip the names off the actual cases, - even the madhatter Republicans have to concede that if you have corrupt illegal happenings going on in your pre-election campaign, that shouldn't be ok.

Would it be ok to have RFK or JB doing any of that bullshit?

What about the next REP or Dem?

I'd think that campaign oversight SHOULD be held to scrutiny and ethics and be at least legal- You know, like not paying for haircuts, porn stars, or abortions for women that you sleep with - using campaign funds for example.

As a collective, one would think that we need to have public representatives that are not breaking even more laws than the average joe.

Yet here we are. - FISA warrants ARE for the good of the USA, but indeed needs to be better vetted when it comes to sources and validation. Just saying.

People should look up the history of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. It was started as a way to put checks on the power of the national surveillance state by introducing laws on how those powers can be used and creating a secret judicial court that can be used to police their activities.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreig...rveillance_Act

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) was introduced on May 18, 1977, by Senator Ted Kennedy and was signed into law by President Carter on 25 October 1978. The bill was cosponsored by nine Senators: Birch Bayh, James O. Eastland, Jake Garn, Walter Huddleston, Daniel Inouye, Charles Mathias, John L. McClellan, Gaylord Nelson, and Strom Thurmond.

The FISA resulted from extensive investigations by Senate Committees into the legality of domestic intelligence activities. These investigations were led separately by Sam Ervin and Frank Church in 1978 as a response to President Richard Nixon's usage of federal resources, including law enforcement agencies, to spy on political and activist groups. The law itself was crafted in large part in closed door meetings between legislators and members of the Justice Department.

The act was created to provide judicial and congressional oversight of the government's covert surveillance activities of foreign entities and individuals in the United States, while maintaining the secrecy needed to protect national security.

You do not have a good understanding of how third world shit hole countries operate. Like Japan, Australia, Canada and Europe, most third world shitholes do not have FISA-like operations spying on their domestic citizens. The USA and Israel may be unique, for countries not under authoritarian rule, in having massive domestic spying operations.

Now, as to shit hole corporate planet rate proletarian taxpayer thievery, this is not the appropriate thread. Posts related to shit and taxes go in my "How are we going to pay for all this shit" thread. Yes, prior to 2018 before the corporate tax rate cuts engineered by Paul Ryan, Donald Trump, and Mitch McConnell, the only country in the world with a rate as high as the USA was Brazil. However, corporate rates in other shit hole countries like Burundi, Suriname, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Gabon, and Laos were almost as high as ours. But now that's history! Our corporate rates are at about the average level for developed countries, and below the rates for the aforementioned shit holes. On individual taxation you've got it backwards. Compared to other most other countries, both developed and third world, the proletariat steals more from the rich here. We have the most progressive tax system in the OECD. That's the opposite of regressive taxation that occurs in some third world shit holes.

Default More evidence of bipartisanship

More evidence that the running of the government is more important than scoring political points. Maybe the writing is on the wall and the chaos caucus is being pushed out of the way. We can only hope that this is the start of something new and not just a bump in the road.

Democrats Save the Day for Johnson on Foreign Aid Bill

A critical foreign aid package that was being held up by hard-liners in the GOP passed a crucial procedural threshold when Democrats took the rare step of saving the Republican proposal.
|
April 19, 2024

Democrats threw House Speaker Mike Johnson a lifeline Friday morning in a 316-94 vote to open debate on his four-part foreign aid bill over the objections of many within his own party.

The bills themselves, which would provide military aid to Ukraine and Israel among other things, are expected to come to a vote on Saturday and to pass with a wide bipartisan majority. They would then be merged into one before being sent to the Senate.

Default Senate approves extension of FISA surveillance just after deadline

More evidence that bipartisan legislation works. No matter how much it pisses off the hardcore liberals and conservatives.

The Senate early Saturday passed a two-year reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act’s (FISA) warrantless surveillance program after hours of intense and sometimes acrimonious debate on the Senate floor, narrowly avoiding a key national intelligence gathering capability going dark.
Senators voted 60-34 to send the bill to President Biden’s desk shortly after the midnight deadline for a lapse in expanded surveillance powers.

Uh oh, I see a Trump social media tantrum coming... I guess there are more elected Republicans than I thought who don't want to be Trump's bitch. How dare they disobey a criminally charged private citizen! Haha

... 'Course, it's entirely possible that Trump really DOES want
the FISA renewal... That-way as President again, there's A LOT
of Dems out there who should be surveilled.

But no worrys, lads... I'll ask Trump to leave ... uh .. "most"
of the Forum members alone. ...

“For too long we’ve been ruled by the anger of the minority all under the gaze of the indifferent majority”.

The work of government is important and we need the reasonable majority to meet in the middle to solve some of the most vexing issues before us. Let’s hope that this minor rebellion is fruitful and multiplies. Mike Johnson is going to need democratic votes to remain the Speaker. Let’s hope Mike Johnson and Hakeem Jeffries can make a deal to get some actual legislation passed.

^^^^ this.

apparently - working across the aisle isn't a dead idea= despite what the MAGA crowd is crowing about. It's a shame that the collective mindset of MAGA is just own the libs, vs. getting results. Hopefully this is the beginning of a new wave of getting things done. Americans' may not always see things from the same perspective, but they do expect their government to function towards creating 'outcomes' and do the peoples work. vs just tweets on X or some other bullshit media board.

Those are valid statements if you’re in favor of an all encompassing police state. I’m still flummoxed at the left wings reversal of what has been a pillar of their beliefs for decades.
