just do away with district system and return to at large voting that used to be in place before 1970.

I don't want to do away with the college. The reasons for its existence have not changed only the states. With a pure popular vote, eleven states would control the fate of the country. Politicians could promise the moon to every individual voter and take what they need from the other states to make it happen. California could just open the flood gates and bring in another 3 million votes from Mexico. Who needs Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
The last time one section of the country saw their electoral power disappearing we had a civil war.
