Default new strategy of GM

GM is following a new path to make profits:

- stopping car production such as the Cruze
- no more rebates or discounting
- going for automated vehicles in the future

Questions:

Why do car companies think automated vehicles will ever become a big market ? Isn't it a bit like the flying car ?

Holding prices with no rebates is a good strategy - until you don't make enough sales, or your competitors offer them, and you don't. Is lower volume, higher profit per car a strategy that can work in the car business ?

and laying off workers. Trump sold a pile of doodoo to the people who voted for him. he has created zero new manufacturing jobs, while thousands have been lost on his watch. "make america great again"-ish..

What you say must be true. Guess that's why unemployment is lower in the last 2 years than the previous 40.

GM needs a new strategy. We have Chevy Impala as company cars. They blow head gaskets, water pumps, and the rack and pinion has failed. The car is a 2017, and only has 63K. All of was covered under warranty.

Abolish the unions....they are no longer needed and have extorted and plagued that industry for decades. Problem solved....

GM does not need the Cruze since Trump rolled back the gas efficiency.

Ford Pinto - Ford Maverick - AMC car that looked like a moon wagon. We can thank the foreign car makers for forcing US car companies to make a better product to stay in business. (although the first attempts by foreign car makers were kind of weak too)

I was shipping some products, and requested wooden pallets for them. Advise was because of the union, the charge would be $ 220 for each pallet.

"Look for the union label" - so you can pay more than it is worth, and we pocket the money

Are self driving cars the wave of the future? Ask yourself: would most women rather play Candycrush on their phone and drive, or just concentrate on playing Candycrush?

Sit outside a Kroger for 10 minutes and watch every woman under 40 has their phone out before they hit the crosswalk.

Today you do everything in the car except pay attention:
Eating hamburgers.....listening to the radio....talking on the phone

Do Formula 1 drivers do that ? No !! Did anyone see the video of that flying Formula 1 or 3 car that went into the pits ? I think it was the recent race at Macau.

Guy is DUI, falls asleep at wheel of Tesla while on autopilot.
Yes, women want this ability.

In 20 years, 90% of traffic in America will be car driving itself. Car ownership will probably be in half because why have a car in driveway when it can drive to you? Or you can whore it out?

Drove one of those driver assist cars this weekend. Not autonomous or can take your hands off the wheel - tells you when you are getting to close, drifting lanes, etc.

Hated it. Not meant for Houston driving. I can see why electric cars, self driving cars are the wave of the future though.

EV are for sure the future. And no one will need a drivers license. The car manufacturers are all bidding to be competitive with Tesla, no question about it.

GM is currently advertising Employee Discount Pricing on all Chevy vehicles. I see GMC and Buick are offering large discounts on their vehicles.

Ford, Chrysler and GM, are cutting back on sedan production, as their sales have slumped in recent years. SUVs and trucks are what people are buying.
Look around you when you are driving.

As for self driving cars, no thanks. I enjoy the pleasure of driving. Maybe for Mellennials, who are more concerned with texting than driving.
