The polar ice cap was supposed to be totally melted by 2013.

parts of the arctic have now melted, but its along the Russian coast. Russia would be the main beneficiary as they now can do year round shipping, some thing they could not do before.

It's a scam.
So the article was peer reviewed and the mistake wasn't found. Sounds like an obvious error. Did the author release all the raw data? Probably not.

You people probably didn't read the article.
The point was that an error was discovered, it was admitted, and it was corrected. Some calculations changed as well as some results. Nobody tried to conceal anything from anyone.
You guys don't even know what you're celebrating.

Al Gore predicted the North Polar Ice Cap would be completely ice free in five years. Gore made the prediction to a German audience in 2008. He told them that “the entire North ‘polarized’ cap will disappear in 5 years.”

An ice free north pole has been predicted by many people on various timelines. The team at google hasn't cleaned all of them up yet. I remember when google considered Al Gore a "thought leader." Feel free to research yourself further.
