This is a stupid tax. As WTF correctly said in another thread, few people pay it and it raises very little. People jump through hoops to avoid paying the estate tax, in ways that hurt the economy. The wealthy Democrats who applaud the tax, like Warren Buffet, have figured out a way to avoid paying it.

The Democrats by the way don't have a monopoly on this sort of thing. Republicans came up with the GILTI tax last year, a form of double taxation, which raised taxes on individuals who own shares in some foreign corporations to over 60%. Trump was going to propose raising the top rate on individuals until Gary Cohn, a Democrat, talked him out of it.

I bought a new truck in 2016. I payed for it with money I had already payed federal income tax on. Does the car dealer owe me a tax refund. Isnt that double tax?
