Just to clarify.... and I know it has been said before....

But the local Mod crew almost NEVER knows the cause of these things. And we have no powers or privileges whatsoever that can help resolve them.

I know that some of you may be thinking "Well, we can at least let them know and they can report it to Staff" but even that is probably not very useful. If you are experiencing problems, others undoubtedly are too and Senior Admin Staff is already aware.

Bottom line is this: this site routinely goes through slow-downs and other weird shit. It has for as long as I have been on it. Go ahead and post on it here, if you want, on the off chance that there is something wrong with YOUR computer and someone may know how to help you. But for most general slow-downs and things of this type, there is no other advice other than "be patient" and "try again later." And please.... don't complain when a local Mod does not respond to this. If we don't, it is because we don't know shit, not because we don't care.

Rooster, you mean we should not tell them about the user specific "slow down" button that we turn on and off for certain people?

Also, no credit yet for a review posted on Sunday. The site was flaky that night. The review made it into Independent Providers but maybe no mod was notified?

Mods are not notified when someone submits a review. They have to get on the site and go through the reviews to find out which ones have not been accepted/rejected for PA credit.

I could believe THAT ( specific "slow down" button ).... except for the most part.... my access is speedy and wonderful.
I just report when I notice horribly substandard connectivity and speed....
And I do that only so others in the same boat know that they are not alone......
But carry on and hit that button whenever necessary.....

When the site slows down its usually because it's feeding time for the mice...

Also, when it is slow for you guys, it is even worse for us. What I mean is, some of the things that we have to do as Mods take FOREVER. And we often can't just bail in the middle of something and come back later. I assure you that we feel your pain...and we feel it even worse.

Early this am around 5am it was really slow so I switched browsers from Internet Explorer to Foxfire and had no problems. I find most of the time if I switch browsers the site is fine. I hope this helps. Ed

Typically a backup runs nightly, anywhere from 11pm to 4am west coast time. It normally takes at least an hour to run. Other times updates are getting installed and other mundane maintenance is being ran. Yep, it slows things down no doubt, but the temporary inconvenience is worth it in the long run.

Also I have to continually tune up that damn User Slowdown function...depending on who is on the shit list for the day.
