I have a former business associate who was married to a real heavyweight. The situation was such that he was embarrassed to take her to gatherings where people in his little universe were likely to be around, because this would be yet another in a series of small humiliations resulting directly from his wife being overweight and ugly. His wife ended up being diagnosed with Crohn's disease at some point, he couldn't take her outside the house at all for fear of her having a spontaneous shitting fit.
This fellow was relieved, both because he no longer ran the risk of running into someone he knew while out with his fat wife, and also because she was no longer able to eat like Saint Bernard and finally lost some of that blubber.
