The article simply isn't true. The application for a normal California drivers license is completely different than that for a special immigrant drivers license. The application for the immigrant drivers is not automatically registered to vote and contains no "opt out" option on it because those applications are not automatically registered to vote. It gives them a license to drive and that is all - it does not register them to vote. This was done for public safety so that we have more insured drivers as well as drivers that know the laws of the road like signals and traffic and therefore are safer drivers. If you look this up on Snopes it is a big "False" - why this paper publishes this like it is some big change or news makes no sense to me an only acts to incite misunderstanding. Before you get angry about it - do yourself a favor an look it up. The story is inaccurate.

The funniest thing is that the new law takes effect on April1. April Fools!

Bull or not, i find it screwy that i keep seeing breaking stories like this appear in UK News papers before i see anything on them in US papers or news sits..
