In another life I was a Banker. It was a time when a provider could establish a CC service, and even some carried the card imprinter machine to a call. But the Banks/CC got wise quickly. A lot of the guys would go big time on a girl and then turn around and dispute the charge, saying they never got the service or whatever was bargained for. The Banks found it much easier to close the problem account. After than it became more difficult to establish a CC account without having a storefront .

When using any type of CC machine, Square, Pay Simple ect. you have to limit the amount you put directly on it.

When you set up your CC account they will ask you how much do you intend to charge minimum and maximum per transaction.

EX: Hair salons who do weaves ect. may charge more per client ect. and there fore can back up the CC transaction more securely.

I used to use a CC reader, but now I decided to quit doing so.
I never had any chargebacks, because I printed up a legal document they had to sign before I swiped their card, and I also checked their DL. against CC before I swiped it.

The max I ever swiped a clients card at 1 time was for $300. If session came to more than that I did transaction 2 times.

Odds are that this is not happening on a regular basis, it boills down to a risk analysis. How much profit will you see because you accept CC vs the loss you may incur in this instance. I have no idea how many people are attempting to use cards and you are turning away because of it.

I would also consider the risk incurred from the paper trail created in taking CC's. As with all things in running any kind of business you have to weigh options and decide what level of risk you are comfortable in taking. Speaking from a purely Cyber Security perspective I would tell you that a great many things thought to be secure and private are more easily tracked than one might imagine. . Personally my vote would be cash only,.
