You have your pick of regular "chain" hotels although I'd stay away from the lower end Motel 6/8s.
I love seeing the city from the top of the Capital Building. You can take a tour of the dome and see the city from the top of it (best on a sunny day). There's the Zoo - not spectacular but very affordable. There are also arts including the oldest continually operating dinner theater in the country. There's also the Kansas Museum of History, and Evel Knievel museum as well. Lake Shawnee is a place to stroll and take in the scenery, although not so much this time of year.
