Default Despite liberals, we know China should be punished...

...what do you think is appropriate? Military? Economic? Cultural? Or something else?
We could decapitate their command and control organization with cruise missiles but could we stop a meaningful response? Do we marginalize a trillion dollars of our debt to them?
Do we require companies to return manufacturing jobs to the US or face sanctions?
Do we revitalize our pharmaceutical companies and tell China to go fuck themselves?
Do we put pressure on Hollywood (and the NBA) to stop kowtowing to China? Do we make chicoms the go to villain for the next two decades?
All of the above?

despite Trump saying China has taken advantage of us before, and now this.. nothing will be done. Hell, we can't even get them to back away from the Spratley Islands, let alone anything difficult, like curbing cheap imports of drugs, toys, clothes, whatever. we made our bed with China, like Saudi Arabia.. they will fuck us over at times, but we are in too deep to start changing anytime soon.

I'm not giving advice.. no one will listen. anything I would offer up is 40 years too late.

You pressure them to shut down wet markets. And yes, we should have manufacturing and production capability and/or stockpiles for military equipment, oil, strategic metals, drugs, masks, ventilators, etc. here. Your other ideas don't make sense. Why would you want to start another cold war and give up the blessings of globalization? Why does China have to be our enemy instead of our partner?

the wet markets exist all over Asia, and have for many years.. many think this virus began in a Lab. it's impossible to just insist wet markets disappear.

I'm the biggest free trader on this board. But I could see the point in placing huge trade and travel restrictions on any country that doesn't make a good faith effort to get rid of them. What happens when some virus jumps from animals to man that has a death rate like SARS or Ebola and an infection rate like Covid 19? Humanity is fucked. Covid 19 would be a walk in the park, comparatively.

so could I, but maybe I'm just skeptical.. we have had so many reasons to change the relationship nature with China, and until Trump slapped some tariffs, nobody did anything. and even then people were begging him to lift the tariffs, so Christmas wouldn't get fucked up.

free trade is like a drug. the drug being cheap products.

there are withdrawal symptoms associated with the increased tariffs in place.
