There is no one size fits all answer. Much depends on the cause of your depression and we can't possibly know what that is. Psychiatrists prescribe medication. Psychologists engage in non-pharmaceutical psychotherapy. If severe, consult one or both. Things you can do for yourself include talking with people you can trust; focus on other people rather than yourself and direct your thoughts and energy into helping them overcome their problems; excersize (a lot) eat right, and avoid recreational drugs and alcohol. By eating right I mean omit simple sugars from your diet. They (like alcohol) make you crash mentally and physically and contribute to depression. Just food for thought
