Nothing in life or business is certain, but whether it's choosing a doctor, an accountant, or a lawyer, informed people check the prospect out first and therefore usually avoid a catastrophy.
From what I gather it's what indy providers here commonly do, and I think they're wise to do so. I know it's what I would do. My point is that it doesn't work for me if they won't submit to the same.

I think this is where you're not hearing people. It keeps getting reiterated, but you don't seem to be hearing it, or your choosing to ignore it.
So I'll say it again.
Indy provider here DON'T commonly screen clients by getting their real life names or any other real life info from them other than a hobby email and hobby phone. They get provider references. That's the most common way of screening. In other words, we ask other providers if the guy was polite, clean, and not a rip-off.
The equivalent of provider references are reviews and recommendations from your fellow hobbyists. Many diligent hobbyists read reviews, narrow down to a few faves, and then ask around in the locker room or back channels to determine if the girl is really all she claims to be. In fact, many of the hobbyists do a much more thorough screening on me than I ever do on them. I normally don't require more than one reference. I ask for two but if only one of the girls gets back to me, that will do. Many hobbyists tell me they read every review on me they could find and PM'd reviewers for more details before they finally made a decision. Heck, some guys have told me they won't see a provider they haven't first met in public and only saw me after we met at a social.
So I think you're confused somehow if you think that most indy providers are running criminal background checks on every guy they see while refusing to provide any equivalent personal information.
Hopefully, that's all cleared up now. If not, can you please explain what it is about the commonly used screening procedures of references and reviews that you don't understand or don't believe to be true?
