Clearly, NYers like Mamdani, because they went out in record numbers to vote for him.

i'm laughing my ass off. i'm watching his acceptance speech took him halfway to mention Fiorello La Guardia then go off on Trump then spew on about free stuff he has no authority to enact and he knows it. he sounded like the bastard son of FDR and Vladimir Lenin with Adolph Hitler speaking style. brilliant!

Donald Trump is the damn president. Is it really that crazy to some that this motherfucker is now mayor of NYC? This country has proven that we will elect anyone regardless of how unqualified they are if they are a skilled bullshitter and we think things are in the toilet and a good flush is necessary.

People foolishly elected Trump thinking that he could do something about bloated prices. What makes you think a damn mayor can't get elected with a similar bullshit yet more extreme campaign strategy?

Lucas, I get where you are coming from and agree in principle.

What I am seeing is a deeply rooted frustration on the part of voters. Frustration with political disfunction from both sides going back as far as Y2K or earlier if one is older.

The so-called "Gulf Wars" were ill advised as was "leading from behind" during the Arab Spring. We are all frustrated by what and how things have gone for quite a while now.

The latest fling with "unqualified" leadership, whether it is DJT or Mandani is, in my view, from our collective experience with President Biden (imminently qualified in the conventional political sense) or any of the failed Republican presidential candidates, Dole, McCain, Romney et al . . .again, all of them "qualified" in the conventional political sense. And so this vote frustration (on both sides) has lead to looking at these outsider, non politicians.

In my view, this is a general phenomenon affecting the broad spectrum of the electorate in general.

A factual ring to it perhaps, based on NYC results last night.

From the good news file in Texas: All 17 Constitutional amendments passed last night, mostly by a 2 to 1 rate. This one relates to the easy xfer of funds to Texas:
Quote:
Results: Texans approve all 17 statewide propositions on the Nov. 4 ballot

...Proposition 6 (HJR 4): Securities tax ban
The ballot language: "The constitutional amendment prohibiting the legislature from enacting a law imposing an occupation tax on certain entities that enter into transactions conveying securities or imposing a tax on certain securities transactions."

What it means: This proposal would prevent the state from creating new taxes on securities transactions, such as stock trading, and from taxing those who operate or work in the securities market, including financial institutions, brokers and dealers.

It was prompted by a new stock exchange expected to open in Texas and to protect investments, including retirement accounts and pensions, following discussions of taxing financial transactions in other states, according to analysis of the resolution calling for the constitutional amendment...
There were a few deliberations at the writing of it, that maybe they should have a small, tiny even, tax on it as they thought the Escape from NY would happen apace. But the language stayed with:

Welcome to Texas Ya'll!

Double Bonus News Flash:
Mamdani has been living in a rent controlled unit for years.

Let's see if'n he remains in one after the election...
I think everyone knows the answer to that one.

According to CNBC (The cable channel with the stock ticker running at the bottom) the median rent in NYC is $3,700 /month. This is one of the reasons why the democratic socialist beat Cuomo by 200,000 votes. Most of the people who live in NYC can't afford rent at that price. Two million people voted in the NYC election for Mayor, the most since 1969.

If NYC has had rent control for decades, it's not working too well. Do you think $3,700 for a one bedroom of 600 Sq Ft is reasonable? NYC voters have spoken. On 1/1/2026 a democratic socialist will be running NYC.
