I believe that Bush thought Iraq would go much like say Bosnia or the Falklands War. Had it, we would not be having this discussion. You and others would have been correct and myself and the other one third of the country would have been wrong.
I frankly doubt that any President has completed an accurate "cost analysis" on the expense associated with any potentially protracted military adventure, whether a declared war or action taken with or without prior Congressional approval.

(That's not even how the Government finances significant military operations.)

I suspect even you end up spending more on building a house than you "budgeted" and "projected" in your "cost analysis."

Speculation from snippets of conversations for the purpose of defining motive is flawed, particularly when the conclusions are based on psychological conditions and attitudes, since neither is a "science."

My personal belief was, and is, that BushOne should have finished the job started when pushing the Iraqis out of Kuwait, but he didn't. (Did the Allied forces stop at the German border? The Japanese border?)

Every protracted military action since WWII in which this country has been engaged has been politically controlled with arbitrary "lines for boundaries" beyond which the U.S. prohibits itself from pursuing with limitations on responses, which have bitten the U.S. in the ass. Every country around the world knows the U.S. people lack the "stomach" for protracted military engagements, so the U.S. plays into their hands and drags them out in some "politically correct" game of chicken. Guess who has lost. The U.S.

Bill Clinton: 1998
"Now, let me say to all of you here as all of you know the weightiest decision any president ever has to make is to send our troops into harm's way. And force can never be the first answer. But sometimes, it's the only answer.

You are the best prepared, best equipped, best trained fighting force in the world. And should it prove necessary for me to exercise the option of force, your commanders will do everything they can to protect the safety of all the men and women under their command.

"No military action, however, is risk-free. I know that the people we may call upon in uniform are ready. The American people have to be ready as well."

The "American people" are not. We now have a President who never was.

The World's attitude, including those who have been our "traditional" allies, know that full well and act accordingly in response to the belief that we cannot be relied upon to respond if they are attacked themselves.

He talk's about the popular ex-President all of the time.

Then again, he might be experiencing wet dreams.

Default If you think anyone in the Bush admin thought the Iraq war would go so bad, you need your head examined.

Would you loan a person money who did not do a proper "cost analysis."? If similiar home were selling for two million would loan him three million to build a house? If so you are a fool. Every endeavor should be looked at in such a manner if not one might end up 18 TRILLION dollars in the hole and then be stupid enough to bitch about that!

Well Bill Clinton is history (I saw his name in a book and everything) and what he did, why he did it, how it turned out are all important. Of course he lied about much of what he said. He screwed up in Bosnia and Rwanda. In Rwanda he took no action (which he said was one of his biggest regrets) and in Bosnia his high altitude bombing campaign had no effect (except for pissing off the Chinese) until he announced a troop deployment which was what those terrible Republicans has said was necessary to stop ethnic cleansing. I could also mention his weak assed attempt to "get" Bin Laden in Afghanistan, Hussein in Iraq, and terrorists in Sudan which did nothing except to confirm that he was not a serious player.

Wrong again.

Don't always judge others by your own standards. So many have higher standards than you, you will be constantly wrong in your assessments.

Mr. Clinton (and Mrs. Clinton) both agreed with Bush II's assessment.

Or perhaps putting it more accurately: Bush II agreed with theirs on Iraq.

So did the United Nations, with the support of the civilized world, btw.

Based on ... http://www.un.org/depts/unmovic/documents/1441.pdf

That's why I have consistently suggested you should have picked up the phone and called all those "IDIOTS" to set them straight with your assessment based on your 20-20 xray hindsight that could see into buildings and sand piles 6,000 miles away. In fact a case could be made that your neglect to share the special information you had and failed to disclose amounted to treason and a betrayal of the United States government and all those people who died by the ...what do you call it ,........

"ill fated invasion" ... you knew was wrong, but failed to disclose your special knowledge of the folly of looking for something that did not exist!!!!!!!

Hey, BigTits, .... someone as ignorant as you calling someone an "idiot" ...

.. is hilarious, if it were so sad and pathetic.

My standards? LLIdiot set the standards for us all to go by when he cut and pasted the same outdated and worn out 1998 that you shared in post # , no less than dozens, if not hundreds of times in the aftermath of the ill fated and ill advised, spring of 2003 invasion.

Get some new, more up to date material, Idiot!

My standards? You've got to be kidding!

LLIdiot set the standards for us all to go by when he regularly cut and pasted the same outdated, worn out 1998 Clinton Administration material (see post #78 of this thread), no less than dozens, if not hundreds of times. He regularly did so in the days, weeks, months and years following the ill fated and ill advised, spring of 2003 invasion of Iraq.

As late as post #78 of this thread, he is still cut and pasting it!

Get new, more updated material, Idiot!

The Smelly ol' Turdfly taking his LLIdiot obsession to his grave.

You never hear from Turdy unless LLIdiot is around.

In return for Turdy's unwavering loyalty, LLIdiot let's Turdy blow him once a week.

What in the hell was Shrub/Darth thinking?

Bottom Line: The decision to invade Iraq during the spring of 2003 proved to be the absolute worst US foreign policy decision since the Vietnam War.

End of sentence, again!
Unfortunately, you are right. I like George W Bush, and I think he did many good things as President.
But, in retrospect, the war in Iraq accomplished nothing worthwhile relative to the cost, and I wish we hadn't spent the money and sacrificed the lives of those brave men and those well meaning, brave, and ultimately misguided women who shouldn't have been fighting there, anyway.
