A client broke up with me today and it made me cry.

We typically get together on Wednesday. We were scheduled for a get together 2 weeks ago, but he cancelled at the last minute. We re-scheduled for a week ago, but ended up running into a schedule conflict, so it was pushed back until today.

I had a room booked and ready for after breakfast. He was in the restaurant waiting for me when I got there. At first I thought that he was upset with me because he wasn't really holding any eye contact. I asked if anything was up, but he deflected. I just chalked it up to him being distracted by something going on at home or work. So we finished up our meal and went to my hotel room. He walked into the room first. He stopped and remained very still before reaching the bed. At first I had wondered if I had left something inappropriate lying out. Then I realized that he was staring at the toys apprehensively. It started to click in my head what was going on.

He started off by telling me that he wasn't going to be seeing me anymore because he didn't want to cheat on his wife anymore. He was worried about getting caught. About what his kids would think of him if they ever found out. The stress of it was just too much. What he really wanted was a better relationship with his wife. So instead of spending money to see me, he was planning to put his time and effort into therapy with his wife. He thought that maybe therapy could help them get to a place where he could talk about the things that he wanted from her, both sexually and emotionally. I started to cry. I told him how happy I was for him and that I completely understood. I told him that his wife was a lucky woman and that true love and that deep connection are definitely worth fighting for. He seemed so relieved to know that I understood and wasn't upset. Then he took care of the cancelled appointments from the previous 2 weeks and for today's appointment. I was blown away.

And then he made me giggle audibly. He said that this wasn't necessarily a forever breakup. If things didn't work out with his wife he would definitely want to see me again. He asked me if that would be okay. I told him of course, kissed him on the cheek and told him to go home to his wife.

I wish I had the option that your client had. But, I know my marriage is beyond repair.

As for favorite clients, you would LOVE me. I'd make you laugh your ass off from the moment you opened the door, and then you'd laugh some more once I took off my pants. A good time all the way around!
